Anyone else watching this?

It's like watching a documentery of the race vs the actual race.

While I would have rather seen it live last week, watching the whole race on tape delay would have been ok.

But this? I'm not so sure. I think I'll e-mail ALMS about this.

yeah, this is the worst broadcast/documentary of a race I've seen

I've never seen race coverage like this and hope I don't see it again. I wonder if they're trying some new format or something...

The silver lining to this cloud is that there's a golf tournament on !

You could have watched flag to flag on the internet last weekend at ALMS.com Sign up for their newsletter, and you'll get the heads up.

They're (Patron) is trying to reach a more mass audience with this type of "documentary style" coverage. I don't think it works: too many classes for the average person to keep straight with multiple drivers in the same car.

Some nice behind the scenes stuff--Rahal getting pissed at his driver and pulling him out, for example. But for race coverage for this group, it just doesn't work.

It's like they took a decent live feed, and then gave it to someone who usually does documentaries on the Serengeti.

Quite agree. Even the narrator sounded like he was from National Geographic.

The narrator was from NFL Films, who produced this.

Yep, this one was done by Intersport NFL films. Last weeks live coverage with audio by RLM was the best. They need to do that more often.

They did this with the Laguna Race too. We (the fans) have been quite vocal on FaceBook/Twitter we do not appreciate this new format attempt.

The only good part is we did have live web streaming of the race, commercial free and with the Radio LeMans commentators. That is also available on demand now as well.

I switched it on after reading this post. It reminded me of Survivor or something. The only thing I thought was cool was that they seemed to have several camera angles I don't ususally see from Mid-Ohio.

ALMS has used this format before, but that doesn't mean it should continue.

I like sidebars, but this comes across as more of an infomercial than a documentary; all the major players get as much (if not more) air-time than than stars and cars.

I agree. Sometimes the insight & comments of the sidebars and comments of the pit crew (Bobby Rahal saying, "OK...Good lap. More laps like that!") are fun. And seriously, I don't mind them taking a little time to "produce" it... But this got so annoying, so quickly, I actually started watching NASCAR (I'm in PDT).

I watched the live race on the web.

I do not wish to watch an edited documentary a week after the original race. No Thanks.

yep, didn't like it either. seemed like a very dull ad aimed at BMW and Jaguar owners. glad, at least, that wasn't a live broadcast.

I have not watched all of it yet. I was gone doing my 2 weeks for the Hational Guard over that weekend, but at least my wife took our two boys to see it live. It did seem like a Documentary and so far I don't mind it. Also if it can get more poeple interested in ALMS and road racing in general I am all for it.
