My alternator died last weekend at the track. Car is an E36. The alternator was a Bosch reman that was less than two years old and maybe 4000 miles on it. Fortunately I can warranty it but I still missed a day at the track. Are there any options that will last as long as a new OEM alternator when only remans are available? Is the $600 BMW reman better than the $300 Bosch reman? Is having it locally rebuilt a better option?
I don't know who your local rebuilders are or what quality work they do, but I trust my local shop completely. They do a great job and stand behind their work. I trust them with irreplaceable vintage Ferrari, Aston Martin and Rolls Royce parts and also with my crappy old 80's VW and BMW stuff.
