Ever since i saw my first sti in person back in whenever that was(04-05?) i've wanted a bugeye wrx with an sti wing. I always loved the park bench wing for some reason. Now that I've got a fairly nice example of a bugeye wrx, i shopped sti wings on ebay and can't push myself to like it more than the OE optional one on the car now. I desire a little rumble out of the boxer too, but got under the car with the saw and when i saw that it was still rocking the factory original muffler stamped subaru right over the tips i could not push myself to cut it off and put a straight pipe or race bullet in it's place.

Is it because i'm not in my 20's anymore or what? I'm concerned that my automotive tastes have matured to a point that I'm just not comfortable with.

The STI wing doesn't look right unless you also have the STI skirts, bumper covers, and gigantic hood scoop. And the blue-inlaid seats.

And boy HOWDY are people proud of those seats. I can buy new Recaros for what people are asking for filthy, threadbare STI seats.

Not until you replace the rusted out exhaust with an OEM exhaust, you're not...

Imho bugeyes look weird with the big wing anyway, they need the late bug jdm front sides and a whaletail. Mine was aspen white with a late jdm front and looked the biznus.

That's because you need a 326 Power wing (designed for S13s but looks the business on WRXs), a V1 lip, STI side skirts, and an X-Force Varex muffler.

I felt this way when i sold the gutted and obnoxious mustang to drive a stock civic. Turned out it was just a phase because i now miss the obnoxious noise and too much hoodscoop. My wagon will never be gutted or rocking a giant scoop but at it will be louder.

Most of my adult life I have owned cars with V-8 engines. Fell into ownership of a Mitsubishi 4 cylinder that gets 35 mpg. It changed my priorities.

Nah. The bug eyed wrexes are something of a new classic now. I wouldn't cut one up either. If you were having the same trepidations about an EK civic hatch, I might have to call you out.

I haven't driven a loud car in a while. I'm curious how I'll feel slogging the ms3 in orlando traffic.

Washed it today. I almost NEVER wash cars.

Then a new sti tried to show off in front of me. I just let him burn his gas.

See how the front is lower than the sides (visually) that's why they so desperately need the jdm skirts. The late jdm grill smoothes the transition between the hood and bumper and really ties the room together.

Add a whale tail and some white te37s to this and you've got bugeye bliss imho. Oh and maybe some poseur ass (albeit oem) sti stickers for the doors like mine had.

I guess I'm a bit different. I wanted an STI without the wing. Sort of sleeper look to go along with this 50+ yo driver.

I am with you there. I even like Turbo 911s minus the rear wing. Only ever saw one like that and with the widebody kit, it looks like serious business

No, you're just wise enough to realize that a bugeye Impreza is enough of a cop magnet without making it audibly and visually louder.

Well, my MINI has a nice noisy aftermarket system on it that ticks off my wife. I'm almost 65. How old do you feel?

I think the wing-less look is good on an STI. Case in point:

That just looks visually unbalanced to me. Doesn't need an STI wing, but just the normal WRX wing would make it look more even.

Drove a friend's Civic yesterday. Came away thinking "this car would be perfect with less exhaust noise". I'm old.
