I looked into this briefly after some friends moved to Florida, I wish Amtrak had this service on more routes. One thing to be aware of is that the car you bring needs to satisfy a minimum ground clearance, and based on a video I watched of the cars being loaded and unloaded, I'd probably want something an inch or so higher than the minimum clearance, and with not too much track width. The staff loads the cars in a hurry, it looks like they're going up and down the ramps at about 25 mph, so your suspension is going to compress a good bit with the changes in ramp angles, and the train cars look like a tight fit. If you've never ridden Amtrak though, it's a much more relaxed and pleasant experience than flying commercial, if you can stand the extra travel time. It seems like most of the staff really enjoys their work, the scenery can be great, and it's nice being able to walk around the train a bit.

And, one day, I’d love to do this–and go see some good friends up that way.
