Sure could. I actually see more than few for sale on CL.

Not true Sample Turbo 6 speed manual. 2012 w/ 59k asking $11.8K
Wow, these CC's are cheap used! Here is one near me that is a 2013 w/ 37k miles asking $14.9k
That looks like a 3yr/36k lease return on a $30k car now asking price of 50% of msrp.
Thanks for all the suggestions folks. Some good cars for me to check out this weekend. The only cars I'm not a fan of is the Acura's. My wife has a tsx and I'm just not a big fan, the 4 cyl is slow and not interesting.
I think a Saab 9-3 aero could work well? Turbo v6, 6 speed, and they've become very cheap from what I've seen.
Second vote for is300, I think they're fantastic. I've had lots of cars, none have been cheaper to run than my is was. Think Lighter n/a mkiv supra with 4 doors, vvti, auto leveling xenons and suede interior. Default person who doesn't know these cars "but carbon, try and Find a manual one with lsd", answer.....go find one, they're not that hard to find. At any given time, there is at least one on a local cl search spec'd that way. Put the extra couple grand into cams, a header, and front control arm bushings. Or start saving for turbo
Probably on your radar with your GTI search but don't forget about the GLI... While not as plentiful, I found the newer used GLIs less likely to be fiddled with than the hot hatches.
I ended up with a 2014 GLI and have been impressed with the amount of space in the trunk even compared with my old WRX wagon.
