I hate having automotive ADD
The question of the day is should I keep my 1999 M3 or sell it and get something else.
I love the car I already have and it is the one I would have ordered new if I could have afforded a new M3 in 1999.
It has 79K miles. The interior and the paint are both as close to perfect as you could hope to find. It has new tires, all of its maintinance done with records. It has a Dinan CAI and Active autoworks exhaust. The car has new bushings, cooling system etc... It is my favorite color combo (Alpine white with Black leather).
I have a work car that I drive daily in addition to myriad of cars that I flip on the side for extra money. I only drove the M3 1500 miles last year, mainly on weekends, dates with the wife, 6 auto crosses etc...
I have a caged 1994 SE-R that I use for track days etc.. so if I buy something else it will be mainly a nice weekend cruiser occasional autocrosser.
I figure I could sell the M3 for around 12k to 14k based on what other similar mileage cars are offered for on ebay / autotrader.
I have been kicking around buying a 911. I have always wanted one and it seems as if I can get a decent coupe for around 20k ish. I can get a sweet 3.2 Carrera for that price or a decent 964. I could reach and get a higher mileage 993 for low 20's but I am affraid it would take quite a bit of to make get the maintinance caught up.
The 3.2's are pretty bullt proof from what I can tell but the A/C system leaves something to be desired. I like the looks of the 964 but the whole exploding fly wheels, twin distributors, no head gasket thing kind of scares me.
The M3 is comprable to the cars I am looking at performance wise so I am not getting anything faster for the extra cash outlay. The M3 will be cheaper to maintain. I think the 911's will hold their value / appreciate more.
Am I crazy, is the grass greener on the other side of the fence? Will I kick myself for selling a perfect M3 that is my favorite color combo?
