Nope, not just you. I haven't watched one in a couple of years.

I've always wondered how they stay on air in the first place. Televised car auctions are the golf of the motorsports world.

You mean watching car auctions or buying cars from auctions?

I have never done either but really want to try some of the impound/donated car auctions around town.

never been that into them....I'd rather do an ice cream run with the car than wipe it with a feather duster at a contours event.

And apparently cheap to produce, sine they seem to fill half the airtime on Speed and Velocity.

Im watching this one on speed while I troll the internet...i don't know why, everything seems overpriced to me, the whole auctioneer schtick with the talking a mile a minute drives me nuts, the silly theatrics of the auction people walking the floor.... I dunno, I think its mostly that I'm jealous of the rich guys buying these cars even though there are very few cars I see that are actually interesting to me.

I've occasionally watched them, and been to a couple (mostly because of proximity to other things I've done).

Watching them on TV is boring as hell to me. Going to them is marginally fun if there are interesting cars there, only because you get to check them out good and close. The auction itself is generally annoying/boring to me..

the only interesting car auctions that i've seen on tv have been in episodes of Top Gear- both the UK and US versions..

I went to Barrett-Jackson in Las Vegas once. The auction itself is pretty awful, but the post-sale corral is about the awesomest car show.

It's a thing to do once. On TV, I wouldn't bother.

Ah, you mean watching TV shows about auctions. Never found those interesting to begin with.

Now if you're talking about actually going to auctions, and participating in the auctions while you're there, that's a different question!

I really did enjoy them a few years ago but now that they are on every weekend I am just bored. Especially BJ where they try to extract every last dollar out of the already over priced vehicles..... it's just a yawn. Over saturation.

they're going the way of many other shows (weather channel I'm looking at you) in that they've started airing fluff pieces instead of just presenting the cars ... when I watch the auctions, I do so to see the cars go across the stage ..

as to my re. to the weather channel ... stop with all the "stories" ... I turn on that channel to get the weather ... not Ice Road Warriors ...etc ....

Never did watch them. I'm usually not interested in "shopping" for stuff I can't afford.

Hey, that's enough of that kind of talk. I watch golf all the time. I have given up on car auctions though.

I don't watch them on TV but I have watched them online. RM Auctions has a live feed sometimes and their auctioneer is my favorite in the industry.

I like watching the first and last days generally because that's when the cheaper cars cross the block. You can see some really interesting stuff too, like the 60s caddy coupe deville with a camper over the roof and in the trunk. It looked extremely well done and went for 6k and change. I would have been all over it had I actually seen the auction live and been setup to bid. If they post the catalog online prior to the auction it can be fun browsing it to see what oddball stuff will be up for sale.

I blame the Barrett Jackson Auctions as the sole reason Speed is becoming Fox 1.

I've attended the BJ auction in Scottsdale a few times and even bought a car at one about 10 years ago. They are fun more for all the things going on around them rather than the auction themselves. Not being a 'Murican car person I am quickly bored by the constant parade of Corvettes, Camaros, Mustangs, and various other family-car-box-with-big-engine that they are now using to stretch the definition of "muscle car" to jazz up the price.

So watching on TV is especially boring. When Speed first put on the BJ auction it was unique and you would look at the crowd and say "there's my people!" Now, it is just drunken rich idiots looking for screen time...

Last time in Scottsdale spent more time at the RM auction. Much more refined and unique, interesting cars. Beauty of Scottsdale is you can pick your poison and numerous auctions that week.

I completely gave up on them with their whole "drum up extra ratings by naming winter storms" BS.....before I had only been annoyed that there were always staged reality shows on there....

I think that distinction belongs to Fox. Since their first day, they drooled about a Nascar enriched, money dripping channel. And when that didn't happen, they reverted to cheap programming, and then to what they know best, stick and ball. Us as an audience are never going to be bigger than the stick and ball set.

You need to go to a GoodWill auto auction if they have them in Columbus. Or come to the one in Dayton.

I bought two of my escorts at them. I enjoyed the experience. I like to think of them as cultural events. They certainly attract people that are interesting to watch.

I go to the confiscated/ impound auction here in York PA occasionally; it's good for entertainment but wonder how some of the POSs go for so much.

And as far as Barrett Jackson goes I think I only watched because I thought Amy was hot...
