Maybe call a mechanic near the seller and pay him to do a pre buy on it. If an out of state seller did that to one of my cars, I would know they were legit.
I'm nearby. I don't know Monteros but I've owned a Mitsu or three in my day. I can do a general look-over and if there's anything specific you want me to check out just let me know. Have you contacted the seller yet?
Why anyone else? A guy who lives in Sterling and lives, breathes, and repairs cars for the last 30 years offers to go take a look and offers an email address, and the reply is "anyone else?". Seriously? Offer withdrawn.
