Could you guys do a comparo of different popular dampers (hopefully with shock dyno graphs)? I'd love to see the Koni STR.T, Tokico HP, Bilsteins, Tokico Illuminas, Koni Sports, Monroe Sensatracs, etc put up againt each other with some scientific data backing it up.
Thanks!
Further - I'd like to see them compared to some high end stuff like Penske, Moton, etc to help separate the "good enough" from the great on some kind of scale. Everyone knows Penske is better than off-the-shelf Konis but by how much on say... a 2100lb, 235wHP BMW Club racing car on Hoosier slicks
I'd like to believe the cubic dollars you can spend on dampers can be plotted on a curve like the one for audio equipment or road bikes... where 99% of the value lies in the first $1000 and the last 1% is for that .0001 edge required only in F1.
Someone make me right!
+1, It'd be nice to see where the lines are between "crap", "good", and "zomg-amazing" and WHY they're where they are.
Also, I've heard a few times that cheaper adjustables are very inconsistent, so it'd be interesting to see if that's fact or fiction.
and why do $1000+ per corner Penski Adjustable shocks help you win at the national level? Seriously, I can't get my head around why really good shocks make that much of a difference on a Solo II course.
+eleventy billion!
I'd like to see KYB's, Koni STR.T's, Koni Sports, Bilstein HD's, and maybe a decent coil-over like KW.
PS - Tell Koni to stop running their "20% Sale!!" ad in GRM. The sale ended May 31st and the ad is STILL in the latest issue, which I just got last week.
I agree with the above idea.. really like to see some cheaper shocks compared with the highend stuff and like the idea to gear towards autocross

how about springs/coilover conversion kits? have a mega-super-suspension show down where each gets to 'strut' their stuff...
Such a great idea... a comparison of damper construction, shock dynos and autocross times on both a good and crappy surface would be the total bee's knees.
For once and for all: Is the cheap Chinese stuff crap? What about the fanboi JDM stuff? Pricey Euro parts? Unobtanium Prof-level pieces? Is adjustable damping worth beans on sub-$1000 shocks?
This feedback has been forwarded to the decision making types, but in the meantime you've seen this, right?

I have. I love the idea of this test, though... Penske vs Monroe vs Koni vs Ebay - I love it.
