In reply to ProDarwin :

I honestly don't know, but I don't think so. The 10th gen civics can be a couple hundred pounds lighter with more tire per class rules on tire width and drivetrains and they'll be able to maneuver better. But I think straight line speed the audi is the one to beat.

Just speculating, I would imagine the following could get into the 12s;

Speed3

SRT-4

Cobalt SS

Golf R & GTI

WRX

Cars that would not surprise me to get into 12s:

Focus ST

Talon/Eclipse

So Day 1 of Solo Nationals today.. Literally haven't seen the car since it blew up in June.

Get to Licoln this morning to find out, the brakes are different, we've swapped from BFG's to Yokohamas and the spring rates are changes to induce more oversteer... BUT my buddies being super pimps. We had 2 sets of front tires because the Yokos like to be cool.

..this is going to be ...interesting

Went out for my first run to throw down a solid and clean time. I left lots of room to make sure i didn't tag cones. I needed a solid clean run badly. I've dug myself a hole before.

Came back from first runs. 66.9....

I think thats's quick.

Annoucer is rambling and I can't hear it.

Pull back into paddock. Ask my buddy David as I'm getting out of the car... where am I?

He responds with a simple single index finger to indicate first place.

I'm over the moon... which is shortly cut when a cone appears on live timing. I knew i didn't hit cones but whatever. Head down for run 2.

Go out for Run 2 and it goes great right up until the 2nd to last corner. Turned in and i had wayy more grip than i realized and BOOP went the apex cone. E36 M3.

And it was a 66.7

Come back start prepping for run 3 and my cone disappears from my first run. Which puts me up into 3rd as I've been knocked down by Alex and Ken. Go out for run 3 and make 2 blunders and its no good. 67.8

So sitting on run 1 and my co driver improves to 66.85 on his last run to bump me to 4th.

But..... I DIDNT SUCK!!!

Day 1 is over with me less than 0.6 out of the lead and sitting in 4th in the trophies and just off the podium.

Here's video of my 1st Run

Wow, a 2.0 WRX running near the front.  I'm not familiar with that driver - alien or no?  Any idea on the wheel/tire package on that car?

I used to drive a STX wrx and I wonder how much faster STH is (aside from obvious tire improvements).  Also - wagon?  (just wondering if sedans are excluded from a 'hatch' class smiley)

Good luck tomorrow

There’s a lot to be proud of in that image.

There’s also a whole lot to be ROTFL about too.

I was busy friday all day and saturday I drove home and sunday I spent recovering. So only now am I getting back to recapping Day 2.

Came into Day 2 feeling good. But I was definitely tired and running on caffeine and adrenaline. With only 10 hours of sleep the 2 previous nights and I didn't get to watch the videos of my buddies runs on the East Course as much as I wanted before I fell asleep. Luckily the East course was much simpler and had only 3 key elements.

Went out for my first run same plan as Day 1. Get a good run in and have 1 in the bank to protect my 4th place spot and then chase more speed. Guaranteeing myself a trophy was my #1 goal for the first run. I didin't have one and so that's been my goal last 2 years. 2016 was just don't finish DFL.

Came in from Run 1 and job done. I have the fastest first run again. Piehl and Roller are right behind me time wise but I'm fastest.

Run 2 dialed up and screwed up the middle offset section of the course had to park it and I'm a second off my initial pace because of it.

Run 3 got the middle section correct and I'm carrying may more speed everywhere and run is going great until righe before the 3 cone offsets immediately before the finish where I missed my braking point by 5-10ft and blew the run. Had I not screwed that up I might have had the time to catch Roller and my co-driver Thompson.

But came in and 0.3 slower than run 1 even with my parking it right before the finish. I was disappointed in myself for the mistakes on those later runs. But my first runs were solid and I was pushing for the next runs cause I could thanks to my solid first runs.

But I got my first national trophy and my co driver got his highest finish to date with 3rd.

Car is wickedly fast now and the Yokohamas worked for us.

I'm pleased with my 2019 Nationals Solo Season. I was always in contention for a trophy as long as the car didn't blow up. I got to do a fly and drive event, and I did an ultra condensed nationals where I managed to bring home hardware. A solid year.. We'll see what 2020 looks like.. I'm not sure what class or car I'll be running.

Also, Piehl is the man. Came to the banquet dressed as a cone. Dude has humor for days and is a ton of fun to drive against.
