I hate having automotive ADHD. So I've been driving the crew cab since selling the Forte. This morning I go to leave and find hte wife left me her Rio and stole the truck. No biggie.... but as I'm driving it I realize just how ridiculous this thing handles on cheap Goodyear Integrity tires, H&R's and monroe struts and mounts. Then I thing about how it would be so much better without that slushbox... and with another 75hp. That brought me full circle to the Forte.

Loved the engine and trans in that car. great power everywhere and never stressed. what would it do in a car tha was 300lbs lighter? So now I'm fantasizing about a 2.4/6-spd swap into a 2010 Rio (better bumpers) for a one lap car. 15x7.5 and 205/50's all around on this same suspension.... ride is good, handling good and should be as light as stock if not lighter. The Alpha engine is an iron block, aluminum head where the THeta was all aluminum so even though it's larger it shouldn't be heavier....

That leaves the brakes. Then I remember that certain Accent SE's got rear disc brakes... bolt on.

Well hell... that would make an awesome One Lap car. 165hp, 2500lbs, 35mpg. Damnit... I need to focus.

Agreed. You need to focus on building a Rio for us to admire.

Yeah... I occasionally go down the mod-rabbit hole with my TDI. Bad thoughts, indeed...

Or you just need a Focus.

Takes me back to bad thoughts I had about the last gen 3 door accent. A fun little car, but too buzzy on the highway.

Make it reliable enough for One Lap we've been talking about you all week.

Interestingly enough the auto is better on the highway than the manual. But imagine with a 6-spd and the "big block"!

Isn't this the same goofy thing Daewoo of Death did with his Korean lunchbox?

how could it be? It was a Daewoo. Honestly, I wish I had kept the Forte for it now. That car was never stressed.

This is the same idea when the LC accents were getting betas swapped in. It apparently made a quick little car. Sadly my project got cut short just as I had to move and sell everything off.

The 2.4 is light. We've been replacing short blocks for a few months now. When i mount the new short block on the stand I just pick it up, no hoist needed. Even on the long blocks I think the shipping label shows <350lbs.

Bob if you decide to go with this idea (and I sincerely hope you do) let me know, I've got 2.4 stuff laying around.

In reply to Brian:

I agree Brian, mine was an adorable little E36 M3box, and I'm shocked there isn't better aftermarket support - especially for rally/rallyx.

That sounds dumb. Why would you want a Focus?

EDIT: Dont take that seriously. In fact, unless I'm talking about Ridgelines never take me seriously

Ride the bike to work. Spend money on things for the bike. Problem solved. You won't end up with an extra $10k in a E36 M3box and still have a E36 M3box.

Plus, a 165hp, 2500lb one lap car is like paying a $5000 entry fee to drive around saying stuff like "I don't care about being last, I'm just glad I'm here". Everyone hates that guy Bob. Don't be that guy.

But I am that guy. I can't not be that guy. I'm not doing it. The wife would effin' murder me if I even mentioned this outloud to her at this point. She's about done with me and the truck at this moment.

Sure, you can do that... or you can just get a Fiesta ST. But then you'll start having thoughts like "what would it be like with a tune and bigger turbo? And 300 lbs lighter? And coilovers? And...."

I can't explain it but I really enjoy Bobzilla's love of Korean cars.

(Probably because I have the same Kia/Hyundai appreciation)

Sorry, I didn't see this when it popped up... I was only checking three threads on my phone the last 10 days, and that phone was still having memory resource problems.

thought the first: a 2500lb OneLap car really wants 200hp, an LSD, good brakes, most everything else is negotiable.

thought the second: Huckleberry can't be more wrong. I thought this would be the reaction to my bringing a Fit in 2009. Instead I was welcomed into the pack with open arms.

The only people that LapDogs don't like are the Stupid and Dangerous. Those people put us all in danger, they do it needlessly. We educate them if we can, before they hurt us or themselves.

If I'm incorrectly reading Huckleberry's post, and it was intended as 'tongue-in-cheek'... well, woops. But, I think it's still helpful to make it explicit how welcoming the OneLap community is.

thought the third: Bob, give me a couple of weeks to let things settle and see which direction the wind is blowing.
