what you said is true, but another reason 5sp VUE's are somewhat common is because of supply problems when they were new. They had a hard time getting the CVT's in the first place, but couldnt exactly stop the whole production line. I remember several month long stretches were we received ONLY 5sp VUE's from Spring Hill.
