So, my Miata was mauled by bears recently (not joking but luckily just a minor mauling).
They tore off one of the windshield wipers, and mangled the second one. They also broke the plastic housing for the drivers side pivot, so the drivers wiper is floppy now.
Couple of questions:
1. The wiper transmission arms have a ball and socket which can be pried apart and snapped back together, right?
2. Is there any hope of gluing or plastic welding the pivot housing back together? It kind of looks like Delrin, but I don't think it actually would be as an oem part.
Bears are out of control. A couple months ago one toppled my outdoor fridge, and broke it.
Try gluing it back together. I've had good luck with this:
Clean the area with alcohol, ect... Of it doesn't work, you're only out $7-8.

Based on another post you made about roads other than the Dragon, I think this happened in your area. We have a little cabin off of Old Fort Rd in Fairview, NC. Car was parked there the past month.
Not great pictures, but you can see they ripped the drivers side wiper off and bent the passenger side. Also pulled out one of the washer nozzles and dented the power bulge in the hood.
Come over to my house and Albemarle and pull all the wiper Parts you need off my parts car.

Thanks man, that would be great. I'll text you to figure out a time.
Hmmmmmm. Wonder what attracted the bear(s) to the wiper assembly? That hood is toast too.
I wonder if they saw their own reflection in the glass and slapped at it.

Most likely cubs, they are curious and like to berk with things. Many times they have pulled the fake rock off the well head.
I saw one once who had grabbed onto a convex mirror that let's you see around a sharp bend. It was whipping it back and forth on its mount, kinda like aiming a satellite dish.

A big one and a little one stole my pic-i-nic basket at the park!
Hopefully will be able to get the car back to safety in Charlotte over the xmas holidays.
Thanks to Dusterbrd for the hook up on a new wiper assembly from his parts car.
We now have a cheapo security cam at the house, this is from a couple months ago:
Also, I took care of the hood:
Latest update, bears bit two of the tires and punctured the sidewalls. Was hoping to bring it home before Christmas. This complicates things.
I feel bad, no Miata deserves this.
At least they're black bears, the ones we get up north there's rarely fixing the damage they do.

Is there a cheeto under one of the seats?
Your Miata is delicious apparently
Hey, I'll take bears over people anyday.
Sorry man. I guess you'll have to grin and bear it.
Time to coat your car in capsaicin.
In reply to Brett_Murphy (Agent of Chaos) :
I'm thinking electric fence if we leave a car up there again.
We like the bears in general, it's cool to see them around. My wife thought it was kind of funny when they ripped the windshield wipers off and then I would keep the new ones inside the car and just put them on when we drove it... but now it's just getting expensive.

I assume they were flat to begin with. A tire puncture on the sidewall would have injured/killed one bear and the noise would have scared off the other one(s). If they were flat, that could have been a one-bear job.
As a joke, one time I deflated a properly inflated scrap tire by poking the sidewall with a utility knife. It blew my arm completely around my body, and I smacked my other elbow with the knife. Fortunately not the blade.
