I test drove a 2012 Mkvi and all i kept telling myself was : This is a car for grownups. Even at 86k miles it felt solid yet sporty. If I had faith in the reliability I would have one instead of the civic si I currently have. Unfortunately I have no time in my schedule for unscheduled maintenance. So far, as regards reliability, I am glad I chose the si.

Back on topic. I love technology. So, I am leaning heavily towards the RS. I keep researching a "forever" and the RS is now on the list. My only criteria is I must like it within half a mile. And be willing to keep it for a decade or more. Cars that did it for me are the s2k, fiesta st, e36m3, mkvi gti and mki mr2. Surprisingly, the lexus gx470 also made it, but it is not a car. It must be nostalgia--my family used to own a land cruiser ii, ppredecessor to the prado/gx470.

You should be able to left foot brake the new Golf R with the traction control off.

Supposedly with a tune the new Golf R makes ~400hp. I've read/heard very good things about it and was all set to get one, until VW delayed the launch yet again, then said the 6MT version would be further delayed...

To bump this back up, APR says 400hp and 400tq on 104 octane with their tune, no other modifications required. Lulz

Considering people seem to think the ecoboost motors from Ford are typically power limited due to the small size of their turbos, the Golf R might make a KILLER sleeper for years to come.

I believe alfadriver's pointed out that with DI engines the fuel pump/injectors is the main limitation. I'll believe 100hp/cylinder when I see it.

Do the newer VWs disable throttle differently than the older ones? The early 00s model Golf/Jetta would allow you two seconds of full throttle and brake before it would cut the throttle. Just don't apply the brake for more than a second and you're fine. (Or better, set up better for the corner so you don't have to do those shenanigans)

Alfadriver has pointed this out for Ford. Not everyone plays by the same corporate rules. Not saying it is true the "400hp" number, but even the claims of 91 octane tunes from APR competitors is ~360hp and 380tq. Pretty damn respectable.

The APR tune I listed removes the throttle cut for left foot braking, so there are already solutions :)

The DSG also supports more power better than the manuals and APRs tuning can tweak DSG settings

I thought Ford and VW were using the same hardware...
