Sorry for the giant pic.  But my new to me Mustang has a brown nose and I'm curious what is the recommended way to have it painted back to factory white to match the car?  The scoop is held on with just a few four small bolts and a couple of plastic tabs, so it can easily be removed.  My concern is having it screwed up and having a white crappy looking hood scoop.  I'm guessing this is too small of a job for any body shop to want to do, so what other options do I have?

Thanks

you could paint it youself, you should be able to get cans of the same stuff using your factory color code.

Im willing to bet most body shops would be willing to take that on, Ive had a few local ones do small jobs like that.

or vinyl wrap, might not be that hard looks pretty flat

There are shops that specialize in touchups and minor repairs that require good skills in color matching, check around to see if there's one in your area.  They typically will ask to use another part off the car (like a gas filler door) for matching the color.

You might be better off buying a new one and having that one painted white rather than trying to redo that one. Some shops wouldn’t want to mess with prepping that one to paint it, but I’d think any of them would spray a new one for you. Shouldn’t be hard to match Oxford white, and a busier shop will probably have some already mixed up from spraying trucks and vans.

if you can live without the part for a little while, you can ask the bodyshop manager at a dealership to spray it when they paint their next Oxford white car. the amount of paint that they would need would be about the amount that they would toss when are done.

Or just blow the $200 for a color matched part. pair it with the obligatory loud exhaust. Wait for AM to have a sale (they happen about as frequently as Harbor Freight tool sales).

Nitrous kit and a backfire should take care of the hood scoop, bro. laugh

Just kidding.

I would buy a white one, or paint it yourself, while you save for a white one.

So I am pretty sure (still need to check the paint code) that my Mustang is "performance white".  Would this be an option?

Especially since I can pop the scoop off and paint it.

What about the rest of the car, color and trim?  Would it match the rest if you plastidip it black?

Yes, you can paint it yourself..  HF tools and a compressor and the smallest amount of paint you can buy.  Or you can paint it semi-gloss black and go with it.

Rest of the car is white except the tan convertible top.  I think that's why the brown nose bothers me.

many shops would paint that for you. I have guy near me who does motorcycle helmets on the side, he will always take on small jobs

Its white wrap it in 5$ worth of vinyl and call it a day.

Or do it in flat black like all the flat billers out here do.

I'll assume that scoop is cosmetic only? Take it off and see how you like it.  If you like the look find someone with a base car to trade hoods with or invest in filling the holes.

You'll need to log in to post.
