Lets hear them. I was watching the motortrend youtube channel and they were reviewing the new R8, an eargasm for sure but my wallet will never be that big. Give 2 cars, one under $5k, one under $10k.

I'm going to second the small-block Ford. At full song they do sound oh so sweet. Good call on the Alfa, too.

Under $5k-Alfa Milano, GTV6, 164, Jaguar XJS, XJ12

Under $10k-Maserati Quattroporte, Citroen SM.

I would say the best sounding of any engine is the older Lamborghini V12 (espada, jarama, LM002, etc), but those are more like in the $30K-$150k range..

An open filter ITB setup on pretty much any motor makes wonderfully evil sounds.

5k = Alfa Romeo anything

10K = e36 M3....always sounds good, unlike the e46

5k = anything with a 20v 4age w/ open itb's! Hell, even the 16v with open itb's.

10k = anything with a 1uz and open itb's.

Of course, this is all just my flavor.

Ahhh, for the Alfas are you talking 4cyls or 6cyls because there is a difference...

For a super cheap good sound, listen to a 1608 Fiat engine...

That being said I really like the sound of a VR6...

the 355 in my 71 Nova sounded pretty badass at WFO when driven in anger- headers+ X pipe+ Flowmaster+ 7000 rpm= many happy fun good times... especially the couple of times i took it thru a tunnel..

sadly, i had about $14k in that car, so never mind..

i helped a friend build a mild 302 for his 89 Mustang- like my Nova, it has long tube headers, X pipe, and Flowmaster 40 series mufflers and sounds a lot meaner than it actually is.. i think he has maybe $3k in that car, so it qualifies.

Another vote for SBF. They have a beautiful exhaust note.

Yes to both of these, but i think you meant "Any Audi 5 cylinder" for the second part.

I'd also like to nominate anything with a VW VR6 or a Mazda KL.

I also like the E36 M3, and anything with a 2jz in it. Even N/A, with a proper exhaust, they're a beautiful sounding motor.

<$5,000: VR6, E30 with Supersprint exhaust, Mustang Gt with the right exhaust. Any Honda with Ebay exhaust

Any of the Fiat Twin Cam engines sound delicious.. as described.. somewhere between a SBC and a Ferrari. A low down growl at idle and a high end scream at the top.

Now for the Alfas... I love their V6s. Those are straight Sex.

Surprisingly, the Volvo I5 sounds sexy too.. I did not expect that
