Our new to us 2023 CX-5 only came with one busted up FOB. We've taken care of that, but would like to have a 2nd one for me.
I suspect the dealer would be a $200-300, so I was just curious if there was a more affordable way to get a legit FOB and have it programmed.
If you want to expand your tool holding a bit, and don't mind doing some things yourself, you might consider seeing if Launch has a DIY scan tool loaded with Mazda software. I bought one with Honda / Acura software installed on it for ~ $140 from the Amazon, and amongst alot of other things, it will program keys.
Here is the one I bought for reference, showing now at $170 - $35 coupon:

To be completely honest, I have yet to use it for that reason, but I do see it is in its menu tree. Idea is go to Batteries Plus (or similar) and get a key cut, but don't buy the programming service from them. Instead, take that cut key (once you know it'll work in the lock cylinder(s)) home with you, and use your Launch scanner to program it.
Hope this helps!
there is a guy on TicTok , tomskeyco that does keys , but probably your local towing company has someone nearby that has a mobile key truck.

Buying the tool for that + still needing to buy the FOB (it's a push button start), doesn't seem much cheaper than just going to the dealer.
Well about half the cost of the dealer, I just called. $237 for the FOB and $150 for service to program it. I'm just not a fan of buying stuff I'm likely to only use once.

ace hardware should be able to make it . Most of them near me have programmers and mazdas were always easy. Usually under $200 done.
Ask the dealer first, but definitely get a spare. Someone on Nextdork lost their key and it is stupid money to get one without an existing one. You might be able to get a new shell for the existing fob.
There's definitely services out there. There was one (it was a van) at a local Costco not too long back. I don't remember the name though.
In the least, I suspect there are some locksmiths out there that are likely to be cheaper than a dealer.
