Can this cap be removed without the shock going boom? It's preventing me from getting my coilover sleeve on.

I tried something similar with Gabriel struts. Had a similar cap.

Did NOT end well.

I'd be willing to bet you could grind a little off.

Yea the top part we were thinking of grinding but the bottom silver cap is 7 hundreds to big. Not sure if freezer and oven will work for that much.

I'd contact Bilstein.

So I did more research and it come down to a 50/50. Ended up saying berkeley it and beat it off with the spring perch and nothing went boom. The hole in the top part of the cap won't allow it to come all the way off but I can just cut that off.

Oh yea for future internet googlers, the bilsteins came off a 2006 Miata NC. I'm not sure if you'll get similar results with other bilsteins.

As an related follow up, if you're ever trying to beat spring perches off a bilstein then Dawn dish washing soap makes a great lube. I was getting about 1/8 inch per wack before to the whole thing moving inches per wack once the Dawn got under it.
