So we now have the 1,2,3,Z4,5,6,7,& 8 series BMW's. I bet it drove the engineers and bean counters over there nuts that there was not 2 in there lineup.

I don't get it. It looks like a 1 series.

It is, it's the coupe version.

ditto. Looks like a 1 series to me. What's the difference?

EDIT: the rocker panels don't have the "pregnant curve" to them. So I guess that's the difference.

Hopefully this news will plummet the re-sale value of the 1-series due to the perception that the 1-series is lowly and people with self respect should avoid the 1-series in favor of the superior 2-series.
For reference, see "goes to eleven"

Odd numbers mean 4 doors. Even numbers 2 doors. Don't get me started on the 6 gran coupe sedan 4 door thing that should just be the 5 series sedan.

1M coupe as well... 135i coupe, etc etc etc.

I notice two things... it's still small, RWD and has a great motor. It does not have a nav screen in the dash. It lost the stupid fatness under the doors. Wait.... thats 3.

I eagerly await specs and pricing on the M2. If they can keep it in the ballpark of "under 40k" I might be overly tempted into a purchase. I said I'd never buy another new car again but I drove one of the 800 or so 1 series M coupes at Summit Point last spring and it was freaking awesome. Seriously E92 M3 fast and E36 M3 tossable... and all the nannies still had off switches.

128, 135 and 1M go by the "old" nomenclature. I think they start the new even/odd with the 2014 model year.

That 2 series is the coupe, 1 series will be four doors from now on.

^ this. They changed up the numbering system to mess with our minds.

and I hate it... it's right up there with abandoning the "E" chassis code when they ran out of 2 digit numbers.

Nope. The engineers said to the bean counters "watch this, the internets will have E36 M3 fit"!

Probably not in the US, but in Germany the 1 series four door hatches are everywhere.

Looks OK, but can't we get something interesting that costs less than $50K? By the time the stealership has it's way with the window sticker you are in C7 territory.

Buy a mini......BMW isn't going to undercut their small car cash cow by offering anything that competes with it.

I bet it will be some lame excuse for them to charge $5k more for the coupe version of the same car like the 4 series is.

The 128i is a coupe isn't it?

It's replacement is not. That is the last-gen car. This 2 series matchs the current 1 series which i don't think is sold in the US yet.

^^^This. Nobody does it better than the Germans. Oh you want a starter button? That comes in our $4500 blah, blah, blah package. You don't want to pay for a $2500 sunroof, then you can't get the suspension upgrade. You want a two door, then you get the leather interior with the carbon fiber trim upgrade and nav system for $5K. Everything is tied into something else. Believe me, I have been through this with BMW/Mini and MB many times and always ended up walking away. You can almost double the cost of a German car (the lower models) just by adding accessories that you would get on other brands included.

That 3 door 1 series (now a 2 series???) looks pretty awesome. It's upsetting they don't sell it here in the US.

It would be interesting to see if the 1, 2 and 3 wind up at the same price. Just like the 1 and 3 basically wind up at the same price.
