To make a long story short, Mrs. DX's 12 Jetta is starting to have some problems and i'd like to the send the thing packing and get her into something more reliable and non German. Buick has a good 2 year lease deal for the Encore. I know she wouldn't complain about sitting up higher to see the road and they seem to come well equipped. Any insight?

Same thing as a Trax, which is the same thing as a lifted 1.4T/auto Sonic. Haven't seen any real issues with them so far, other than the fact that GM doesn't lube the rear pad slides from the factory and the pads stick in the slides and cook the brakes at about 20K miles. Customers seem to like them quite a bit though and they do drive fairly nice.

I have ridden in a couple through Uber. Seemed to be nice enough. No idea on long term reliability.

How was the backseat room and the ride?

This thread is relevant to my knowledge. My wife just bought a Mazda CX5, but after cross-shopping the CRV, Escape and Encore. The Buick is nice, but man is it small. Feels much smaller than everything else we drove, although Buick has done an amazing job at making it feel premium. It's world's better than the Chevy version, and customer ratings appear to be high.

In the end we went with the CX5 because it was the nicest driving, and the most features for the money (we were able to get a Mazda E-Plan, which is actually available to anyone on Mazda's motorsports contingency plan at the moment). The Buick impressed us with it's quality and feel, but the smallness made it a non-contender.

Still, GM has some awesome lease and purchase deals right now, and they even have a pretty good teacher discount, which was making us take a hard look at the Encore as well as other GM products. If you can live with the size, the Encore is a fine ride.

What is this teacher discount you speak of? Mrs dx works in the higher education sector..

I'd love to put her in a cx-5 but I looked at lease numbers last year for one for her last year and it was higher than her current payment.

Yeah, leasing the CX-5 was only a few bucks a month cheaper than buying if you wanted to actually drive the thing. She has a 40-mile round trip each day so a 12,000 mile per year lease wouldn't really cut it. Mazda is pretty precious with their miles.

Some deals are better than others, but there is real savings to be had there. It's basically the equivalent of the "friends and family" plans that most manufacturers have.

I test drove the Encore and liked how it felt by I thought it was s bit underpowered for the hills around here.

You could step up to the Buick Envision. Imported from China.

I see you're talking about leasing...
I learned of this site here and although it is California biased it still has useful information. Also notice they have a forum section.
