I think we could use a "Build Thread" area on the board.
Just a suggestion.
The accepted answer is that we use the "Reader's Rides" area for that.
But i find that a little annoying to navigate sometimes. It's fun to browse, but not fun to find specific cars you're looking for.
Agree. I like the old forum setup for that reason. I still go back to the old forum to look at stuff.
Oh and can the GRM peeps do it soon? I have a build thread in the works
Thanks
I love build threads! The readers rides section lacks what makes build threads so awesome, and that is the back and forth communication between the builder and the readers.
My own build thread on retro-rides has been a source of so many awesome ideas that I hadn't thought of, because folks can chime in and give their input.

Oh and the 1 picture per update in the readers rides kinda blows too.
If GRM had a seperate build thread subforum I might never log off. There is a huge pool of talent here to learn from.
I just post mine here in a thread. Easy to get lost in the shuffle, though. I usually have to go out to google and search for it, myself.

I just watchlisted mine so I can easily find it.
I need to post a build thread on the MG. I run my own sites so everything's done there, but some people don't like leaving the comfort of a forum...
If you've got a killer build thread in the reader's rides, feel free to link back to it the GRM forum. If you'd rather document your build here on the forum, that's an option as well.
We're launching a hugely improved and updated version of the site in the next few months. The Classic Motorsports site was completed first (it's easier to test things there due to lighter traffic, and we needed a good test bed) and you'll be able poke at it later this week. One of the primary goals of the new site was making it easier to navigate through all the different kinds of content we have. As we make that move, we'll be adding/changing a few forum areas, so we are looking for feedback like this.
If I were creating a killer build thread, I'd do it in Reader's Rides and update my signature to include a link there. There are other options, but that's how I'd skin that cat.

That's what I have to do, too. Although I do keep a build diary on the actual Reader's Ride page.
I like the idea of having a section of only build threads. Yes people who created the thread can link them back to here, but on the side of being a reader, it would be easier to navigate an actual section of the board.

I can still haz powrdork???
I would think that the ideal (in my head, at least) would be a structure like the following:
readers rides == build threads
Posts on 1 show up on the other. However, there would be a switch that the user can toggle whether it shows up on the "build thread portion" of the forum.
Essentially, you'd have something like the following (I'm leaving out a few obvious joins, eg users, etc.):
Reader's Rides:
SELECT *
FROM Comments AS C
JOIN Threads as T
ON C.ThreadID = T.ThreadID
JOIN Sections as S
ON T.SectionID = S.SectionID
WHERE S.Name = 'Reader''s Rides'
Build Threads:
add the following to the WHERE clause:
AND T.ShowOnBuildForum = 1

Yep. Being able to keep the user profiles, readers rides, and previous content was a no-compromise part of the plan. Otherwise, we'd have been done sooner at lower cost with significantly less hair loss by yours truly.

Huh? I tried that before and it doesn't work...at least no way that I've tried worked. Got any ideas how we create a link in our signature? Something like this would be neat.

Remember, Tom lives in the future. Maybe that's something we'll be able to do on the new forum software

Plus that as high as I can count. (Like 10 or so)
I fully support an area for build threads, I o;loved the old reader rides section. Though I suck at updating build threads.

Same for me

find your build thread, click on the heart button at the bottom of it, and from then on use Favorites to find it
Tom's idea of using Readers' Rides for build threads is reasonable....we would need to display the recently changed/commented threads on the Latest Topics page of the forum...I suspect that most of the forum regulars go to Readers rides and never even see the rest of the website
Same for me
