Well for now I went with Liberty Mutual. I did some hard shopping (with specific intensity on the ones you folks recommended) and they all basically came out within $50/year of each other.

I ended up with Liberty Mutual if for no other reason than I liked the agent. We probably talked for an hour one night about cars, cabinets, and garages. It was a nice bromance.

really depends on where you are at.

Looks at lawsuits in your area with certain insurance companies.

if you are a vetran USAA is the way to go.

I have Farm Bureau, not the cheapest but the best value.

To get the best homeowners insurance you will have to sacrifice some time and shop around. you can check with the home insurance calculator They are well experienced, think differently and will guide you very well.

The VAST, OVERWHELMING majority of "they won't pay for XX," isn't the company not paying for a covered loss, it's the company not paying for non-covered loss.

But the insured's were too lazy to read the contract and actually understand what they were buying.

Has anyone other than me had this problem? What To Do When Your Home Insurance Company Refuses Renewal

Your link is blocked at work, so I have no idea what it says. But a co-worker once sold a house and bought a new garden home. The insurance company that he had used for years refused to insure the new home because he had a claim for a fire a couple of years earlier. Seems an exhaust fan in the roof overheated and caught the attic on fire. Some damage, but not a lot. Obviously not a suspicious fire. He had a lot of trouble finding someone that wouold cover him, because when one company denies coverage, none of the other what to cover you.

Welcome to Pittsburgh - i live north (Gibsonia) and work south (Canonsburg/Southpointe) - not ideal but doable. I was going to suggest Allstate, as I had a great experience with them and repair of ice/water damage 2 winters ago that impacted 1/2 my neighborhood and many homeowners in the region.

I know you already settled this issue.. but

I have Amica and have had to file a claim when my water heater took a dump on me while I was sleeping. Ruined the majority of my carpet downstairs. I was VERY happy with the experience with them.
