Bye Mazda 5, hello big Ford. Next I need a trailer

I've been wanting to start towing to events (99% autocross). I've been extending my participation to more distant locations and it's physically hard to spend eight hours in a hard s Miata in one day. 
 

I have a GMT400 Silverado but I wanted to get a newer old truck or SUV that I could count on and that wouldn't require a bunch of my time to maintain. 
 

I've been shopping for a while, then last week my wife said she didn't want to spend any more money on her Mazda five. It's been a good car for us, but it has a problem with the evaporative emissions system that none of the shops have been able to resolve. We were facing a service at the dealer in Daytona, the same place that tried to sell her a transmission replacement for something I fixed with a drain and fill. It's had a few other minor problems, and needs some axles and she decided to have me replace it with something newer that she could daily and we could swap cars on the weekends that I need to tow. 
 

It makes sense, I've always had her in the newest car, and we also need something reliable for family road trips. 
 

I had been looking at Suburbans Yukon XLs, and Sequoias, and with the suggestion that we get a newer vehicle I added Expeditions to the list. The Toyota and GMs were really expensive, but I found a good deal on a 2021 Expedition Max in our choice of colors and the tow package at the local DeLand Honda dealer. 
 

We had the best car dealership experience I've ever had buying it.
 

She told me this on Tuesday, I bought the truck on Thursday. While I was doing the paperwork I reserved a rental car hauler. We drove it home, I switched the draw bar from the Silverado and picked up the trailer. 
 

Friday morning I drove to work, then drove down to Fort Meyers for the state autocross championship.

Yeah, maybe a bit too nice actually. I really prefer older vehicles that I don't need to care about too much. 

The EB 3.5 and ten speed transmission is a great combination.

I get that. For about 15 years we had one nice new car with a payment and I drove the older car that was paid off. I was happy with that arrangement for the most part.

This year we sold our 15 year old F-150 and bought a new one. It's the nicest vehicle I've ever owned. I agree that the 3.5 EB and 10 speed is a really nice combination. It's light years ahead of the 5.3 Triton and 4 speed auto that was in the old truck.

I'm amazed at how how much more relaxed I am driving the new truck vs. the old one. It's just effortless.

I am really looking forward to the difference in the physical and mental demands. I expect that it's going to help my performance at the events to not be so fatigued from the drive.

That's a great looking rig. My boss just bought one and they are light years ahead of the previous body style. Kind of forget you're driving.
