I've done hundreds of brake jobs over the last 40 years.

I'm getting ready to do another one, this one on my '08 Ram 1500. It is the first time I've used ceramic pads.

I'll be replacing the rotors as well with new ones from the same source. (Detroit Axle from Amaze-On)

I've never seen pads come with what I have to assume is some sort of bedding compound applied to them.

Is this a ceramic pad thing or something entirely different?

It's on all of the pads, and certainly looks like it was put on there intentionally.

I've seen some pads (usually EBC) that have a coating like that supposedly to help with break-in.
