Ok so here is the delimma I am dealing with as the challenge quickly approaches. I was able to succesfully start my challenge SE-R the other day, but I have been unable to get it to run correctly. Me and a buddy who is familiar with RWD SR20's have been trying to figure it out for the past three days. We have tried multiple MAFs and two different ECU's with no luck. The car will run with the MAF unhooked but it does not want to rev past 2000 RPM's. With the MAF plugged in it idles very low, and won't rev. I tried to start the car with a stock sr20de ECU and it will not even run.
On Monday I am meeting up with a buddy with a very similar setup to my challenge car and we are going to try swapping ECU's. My concern is that the chipped ECU for the car is for some reason not working correctly. If the ECU is the problem I am not sure if I will have time to sent it to Nismotronic and get it back in time for the challenge.
That is why I am reluctantly trying to pick an alternative as a back up. I have a vehicle that might work but is less then ideal for autocrossing. A second alternative is available locally on craigslist but the owner is unavailable to show it until Sunday at the earliest.
What does the forum think....
Alternative #1...
It is cool and pretty damn fast in a straight line but it is less then ideal for autocross. As a bonus I already own it
It is a 1995 BMW 540i 6-speed. It is exceedingly rare which is why I bought it in the first place. About two months ago I bought it from the local carmax where it was traded in. I bought it for $1575.00 mainly because it is slammed and it has a pretty bad misfire. The drivers side seat also suffers from the dreaded twisted seat which is actually an easy fix.
I have yet to really mess with it, since lately the challenge car has been consuming what little spare time I have. I am pretty sure the misfire is a bad coil pack or two, a MAF, or worse case a intake manifold leak. All of which are common maladies with this engine. I convieniently have a set of old ass Hoosiers from my E36 M3 which will fit nicely on the cars 17 Inch E39 wheels. If I can fix the misfire for under the challenge budget I should be in business.
Option #2
1995 Infinity G20 5-speed.
I think I can get it for around $600.00. The seller says it has a title issue but after talking with him I am pretty sure I can get it sorted out through the dealership. I also have a friend who is looking for a beater and he is interested in buying it in two weeks when he gets some money. (If he doesn't get it, it will be easy to sell after I sort out the title.)
I have the parts G20 that I mentioned in my SE-R build thread and it has a set of adjustable shocks and springs that would fit, as well a set of 15 inch wheels to which I can mount the race tires off of my SE-R track car. As an added bonus I could enter the G20 in the sub $1000.00 class.

It would autocross better then the BMW but would be slower in the drag race. The negatives are I don't own it yet and it is ugly. The seller can't show it until sunday.
