So, apparently valspar anti rust armor is no longer available in gloss black. That was my go to. I've tried ordering from multiple places and get sent some krylon crap.
What is my next best option? We're working with a mix of fresh sandblasting parts, and good factory finish. I want gloss black, brush or roll on. Flow smooth, non chalking, takes a beating, gas/oil/brake fluid/ solvent resistant.
Ill be doing suspension parts, k frame, engine block, etc with it.
Por15 doesn't stick to non rusty stuff, so that's not it for this.
I've been pretty happy with Eastwood's Chassis Black. I'm not sure what I'd go for locally if I had to..

How did it go on? Nice and thick or kind of thin and runny like Rust-Oleum? Did brush Strokes lay out pretty well?

I am planning on using Tractor Supply Majic Matte black implement paint. With their catalyst and reducer on the chassis I have to deal with.
I kinda want to try to spray it on with a HF Airless sprayer. It is a chassis, I am not looking for a perfect finish here.
But also, It would be really easy to send it out for powder coat right now since it is completely bare. Not having to clean up after is a HUGE motivator

I've used Rust-Oleum and it mostly holds on pretty well, the brush strokes smooth out but it can get runny. Sometimes a random spot flakes off which I suspect is from imperfect degreasing before painting. I did my Samurai's fuel tank armor with that and it stayed on the sides but the bottom got abraded away by rubbing over all the shrubbery.
Keep in mind that while black is pretty good at hiding dirt it's even better at hiding cracks, some gray might be a good compromise on anything where cracks need to be easy to see.

It was pretty average, not as thin as something like Por15, but not as thick as a full oil paint. It seemed to level out okay, but my prep wasn't too crazy. Here was a coating I did of it before laying down a topcoat:

As I recall, POR-15 sells a product called Chassis Black. As you might have guessed, it isn't cheap. I was happy with the results.
If you're concerned about making it look 'factory correct', in most cases the chassis and related components have more of a semi gloss finish.
I haven't bought a bad Eastwood product yet, so I am probably going to try out their Chassis Black next time.

Here to say that’s Tim go-to as well.

You can always top coat with a semi-gloss or hammered finish paint over the protective coating to get a less shiny look.
