I'm usually a fan of buying "quality" work clothes but at this point I have a whole drawer full of nice cargo shorts I've ruined with grease, oil, etc from car work. Anyhow, while in Wally World buying some Rotella gallon jugs, I decided to look over at their cheap shorts.
Anyhow, I found that they have cargo shorts "Faded Glory" brand for $12, which appear to use the exact same ripstop fabric that my $45 Carhartt shorts have. In fact, they look almost the same as the Carhartts except without the logo and monogrammed buttons.
I've been wearing them for about a month now and they're holding up well, and better yet I don't have to care about ruining them in the garage, at the track, doing yardwork etc. I snagged a pocket on something and sure enough, the tear was very small (as ripstop fabric is supposed to do).
So anyhow, just thought I'd throw that out there. I've never bought clothes at Walmart before but for stuff I'm going to ruin anyhow, why not...
(PS: Spare me any grief about buying "made in China" vs. buying American. I'm not rich enough to trash expensive American-made clothes lol).
This is good to know, thank you!
I wonder if they make pants in the same style.
Now, where to go for a cheap work onesie.
Faded Glory is a pretty depressing name for anything.

But it SOUNDS COOL! Like "Crossfire" injection. It's a shame they didn't call the TPI successor "Friendly Fire".

Now that is funny. ba-dum-bum! Thanks for the laugh bud.

I think it's supposed to be rustic-sounding lol. Only says it on the tag though, not anyplace visible ;)
Ill have to pick up a pair, im down to two shorts and in the dirty south its getting way too hot and humid for jeans which i wear all day mon-fri at work in the heat.
Shorts while working on a car? Maybe if I had a lift, other wise I wouldn't have much skin left on my legs.
I have a couple of pairs of Kirkland jeans from Costco that I use for wrenching, yard work, etc. I think they were about $18 each. They don't fit as well as name-brand jeans, but they've held up well.

Just for you, we have some cheap knee pads to go with cheap shorts ;)

They would have to be a lot bigger than that to protect my legs from sparks from welding/grinding, sharp pieces of rusted metal, chips from hammering and abrasions from bracing while using a 3/4" breaker bar. I frequently have cuts on my legs that I get through my jeans. I will probably never understand how people can do manual labor in shorts.
I wear shorts all the time when working outdoors or in the garage in the summer.. I only wear pants at work because the company makes me, otherwise I'd rock my Dickies shorts there, too..
Regarding the Faded Glory stuff: I've never bought it, but side by side comparisons with similar Carhartt and Dickies pants and shorts tells me that they look, feel, and fit "cheaper" and probably wouldn't hold up to me.. I used to wear the $15 Wrangler jeans and jean shorts, but they got cheaper on the material and changed them into pseudo-skinny jeans a couple of years ago and they no longer fit my frame or last more than a few weeks being exposed to machining coolant..
All my garage wear comes from the second hand store. I don't feel bad about oil stains on my Eddie Bauer $3 jeans.

If you find one let me know.

I wonder if we shop at the same store(s)? The stuff I've been seeing in my size is approaching the Wally World prices

I also wear cheap ripstop from time to time, but there's one big caveat. There's very few things worse to wear if you've got a risk of being burned. So if you're welding or running a torch, change into something else. Nylon and many other synthetic fabrics will melt and fuse with your skin in a burn injury. And if that DOES happen, for god sakes, do not try and peel the stuff off ofa serious burn wound. If it's attached to your skin let the hospital remove it.

For cheap I go to K Mart. I get the house brand genes for $12 in black. They hold up very well and in black hide most stains. They also fit very well. They are what I would call a relaxed fit. And at tgat price if I rip tear or get battery acid on them I am not that concerned.
I don't know if this is too much to be cheap for a work onesie:

I use the red nap stuff for corner working and it seems to hold up well and isn't too hot standing out in the weather all day.
Chinese pants are like a cheap hotel: no ballroom.
Faded Glory is horrid quality crap. It was that way when I managed a Walmart in the 90s and it hasn't gotten better. I tend to get cheap shorts at Target or Costco.
I'm not against el cheapo stuff, but the FG stuff doesn't hold up well to regular washing.
The Faded Glory stuff just doesn't fit me right. So instead it's Wrangler cargos in relaxed fit from Walmart for $16 for me.
If you want cheap buy used Luckys on Ebay for $20. Otherwise you are just pissing in the wind.
