I liked the auto blog article. That claimed curb weight at 2684#. Better than 2879.
I wish Pontiac was still around, that way I could get one without a bowtie.
It's a Delta 2 car, right? I'm a fan of the Delta 1 hatch I have, so I'd expect it to be something pleasant to drive. I know my Astra is until I blow the rear shocks (again and again, on my second set and they're blown).

Really?
Veloster CR-Z Mini (non-S)
Are all marketed as "sporty" and fun to drive.
I drove a couple of early builds back in August. Long story short, I ordered a 1LT 5 door with the 1.4T and 6 speed manual. If the SCCA tosses it into H-stock for autocross, it should be fun.
This will be my first new car ever, and my first non Scirocco in several years. An 85 8V has been my daily for the past 4 years.
Full disclosure: Yes I work for GM.
I personally like the Sonic. I am kind of eyeballing the sedan with the 1.4t. I currently have a 2011 Fiesta, so I won't be making a move for a while, but I loved the Mini Cooper S turbo I had. I always said that I would take the Fiesta's body and stuff the Mini's driveline into it. The Sonic turbo seems to almost bridge that gap.
Why the sedan? I just think it looks better than the hatch in this particular case.
2012 Kia Rio hatch seems more interesting in every way save for motor choices, the 1.4T seems like a great engine.
Just my 2 cents of course.
Can we at least give the Sonic a chance? Personally I think it looks good, and on paper has some potential. It's not as light as it could be but it's also not as fat as it could have been.
I'm not in the market for a small car like that but if I was I would be giving the Sonic some serious looking at.
I just stopped at my local dealer who had one on the lot. It's "Eh.". Sticker on it was for 18 or 19k. Absolutely piss poor mileage, 1.8L auto was 35 highway, for a smaller vehicle for the same money as a Cruze. It's tall and narrow. Backseat room? Fogetaboutit.

Just put Ferrari badges over the Chevy badges.

From fueleconomy.gov:
Ford Fiesta 1.6 & 5 speed man. = 28/37 mpg
Honda Fit 1.5 & 5 speed man. = 28/35 mpg
Mazda 2 1.5 & 5 speed man. = 29/35 mpg
Nissan Versa 1.6 & 5 speed man. = 26/34 mpg
Kia Rio 1.6 & 5 speed man. = 28/34
Chevy sonic 1.8 & 5 speed man. = 26/35
Looks to me like the Sonic 1.8 is right on par with its competition.

Too bad, that just mires it with everyone else's idea. Which given the Generals rep will make it a lackluster POS that finishes last in about every magazine and magazine test out there.
For the Sonic to be what the General wants, it HAS to be BETTER then the competition. JMO.
Agreed. Fortunately, the optional 1.4T engine gets 30/40 without having to resort to low rolling resistance tires like Ford did with the Fiesta SFE.

No.
All the experts (most of which have never even seen the car) have drawn their conclusions.
This is the funniest thread I've read in a long time. You guys are the best!
Here's the thread from June about the Sonic and the one from 6 days before that one.
I guess one would need to read all 3 threads to see how the opinion of the Sonic has changed.
I was at the GM dealer today and saw one. Interior was a little funky, but pretty nice. It doesn't really look that much like an Aveo, especially if you see them side by side. Nonetheless, it's not for me

You FINALLY got a car named after you! About frickin' time.
With destination the 2012 Kia Rio hatch comes in around $14.5k and there's a $400 "Eco" option that includes stop/start engine operation. Sonic who?
