just wondering if anyone has or knows of anyone who has tried using latemodel tires.. slicks. for drag racing.. would they hook well.. or is it a waste of time.. i ask because a good friend races lates models here in NH. and i can get as many as i need for free.. and i am attempting to build an 09 challenge car.. i got some hoosier road race tires i would use for the auto x portion.. im just getting going on this deal so any input about the slicks would be great...
thanks

It would depend somewhat on the compound. Some people run a softer compound on the left.
the sidewalls are alot stiffer than drag slicks...closer to bias ply road race slicks I think.
I'm sure with enough VHT they'd do the trick.

thats what i was thinkin... figure if i juice the hell out of them it may work for what i want...
They do react well to Formula V treatment.
Good drag tire source for a cheap car. And you don't have to mess with tubes
When you go through them bring a durometer, some tires will be much harder than others even though they should be softer.
When I started Dragging my 67 Dart i grabed some circle track tires They did not like to leave the line at all just go up in smoke and took for ever to hook up.
Treaded street tires were a full second faster.
I then went to M&H Slicks back when Marvin was still in Gardner Mass. and picked half second.

If the sidewall is stiff I don't think they'll work well at the drags.
Drag slicks wrinkle at the sidewall to put more rubber on the track - length wise. That helps as you're traveling in that direction.
You can see it pretty well in this pic:
