I cycle through company cars every year. We regularly tow our pop up camper which when full approaches 3,000lb. Edge tows great but you want to keep it to 75ish. Explorer Sport tows even better and has enough power that it’s easy. Flex toes outstandingly. You could tow at 85 all day with one if you wanted.

6k+ will get you a brand new trailer and a used full size SUV
Not one I'd want to drive every day. I'm done with trying to rely on cheap daily drivers. It's just too much of a PITA and I have other things I'd rather do with my time.
This is an academic discussion anyway as my planned needs require a different set of compromises.

Well... Light - Strong - Cheap: Pick two. Also, if you consider the cost of an entire rig (a cheaper, but much heavier trailer and the vehicle needed to pull it) instead of just the trailer, that $6100 price isn't quite as bad.
While they blur the line between a truck and not-a-truck, towing is one reason I like full sized conversion vans.
I was aware of Trailex, but also aware of the price. My current conundrum is what to replace my Astro with. Looking at various pickups, but a larger Astro would be ideal. A van is so much more convenient as a DD and as a base at the track.

Agreed, which is why I often suggest a van as an option. My location also influences that preference as well. In a fluke of PennDOT classification, conversion vans in PA are typically titled as station wagons - basically a car - regardless of its actual weight and size. This results in a substantial difference in the yearly registration fee. In the case of comparing my '92 diesel E-350 extended conversion van and my old '95 Cummins pick-up, the difference in fees is over $100/year, which can add up over time. Despite the fact the van is bigger and possibly heavier than the truck.
Eventually, I want an enclosed trailer for hauling cars and other toys with the E-350 being an RV. If that weren't the case and my long-term plans included keeping the minivan, then I'd opt for the Trailex as it's the only trailer the minivan can pull with any of my cars on it short of the TDI (which is heavier than the trailer rating).

I should buy a hitch for my moms Routan.
I'd just have to figure out where to keep it so she wouldn't trip over it and/or cover it in stuff so you couldn't get to it.

Panamera has to be one of the highest tow ratings for something you would not expect, it's something like 5k.
Almost everything people are listing are CUV/SUV, which are expected to tow IMO and 3500lbs is pretty weak.
I think you have to look at the euro towing capacities to get a good idea really. State side my CX-5 by the manual is only good for 2k - the same car in the UK is rated at nearly 4k. Though they have lower towing speeds, required brakes over certain weights, etc.
This is a good thread!
