Saw one of theses today, and early Honda CRX...convertible.
Looked way too nice to be a DIY job, car was very clean and well trimmed. Wish I had been able to get a picture. Got on the 'net and found that yes, these were a thing from 84-87.
Straman Convertible Honda CRX
I lived in Portland Maine in 1991 and I remember seeing a yellow first generation Civic convertible parked at a service station in Cape Elizabeth. It was obviously a conversion, but was reasonably well done. It looked clumsy with the top up though. I guess there were a few, but it was the only one that I've seen in person.
The yellow car had a different top without the little triangular window.
I drove a white CRX as pictured above and would often sketch out convertible layouts for the car. The one that I thought would have worked best was a flip top like the Ferrari Superamerica rocked 10-12 years ago.
So simple and light on a car like the CRX. I think it would have worked well with some chassis bracing.
