The radiator in my wifes 2000 Altima cracked. I replaced it but am unsure what coolant to use. It has a coolant with a greenish tint to it in it now. I dont think it is the typical green stuf as it isnt as green as I am used to. I dont know what was in it before as I have had it for about 5 years and never changed it before. Is there anything short of flushing it and refilling it with a known coolant? Thanks all.
I think you have answered your own question.
Always check your owners manual though. It seems manufacturers love to now recommend their own brand of overpriced coolant.
I think I did answer my own question.
I just wondered if there were other options out there. I miss the days of picking up a gallon of green and distilled H2O from Wallyworld on sale and knowing it will will work in whatever I need it in next.
same things still apply to most cars. Run whatever coolant you want. It's a nissan not a honda (blue) or toyota (red) where the wrong coolant causes cooling issues.
Personally I prefer to run yellow (universal) in my cars. It all depends on what I have running around though.
I think Prestone Gold will mix with anything and is the only thing I use since it is the only bottle I have to keep on my shelf.

I recommend Dexcool!!
HAHAHAHAHA
No, really, whatever you find will likely work well.
Another vote for running a high quality universal, it will get along with whatever remains of the factory coolant.
Who makes a good quality universal?
I have an un opened gallon of Dex cool equivalent in the shop now.
Johnboyjjb recommends Preston and I concur, I've used it with all sorts of oem coolants and never encountered a problem.
Any coolant which says "all makes, models and compatible with any coolant" will be fine.
So who wants to buy an un opened gallon of Dex Cool?
Probably someone that doesn't like themselves.
