Coolest Car Your Family Owned?

Before my time my dad had a 69 Torono with a 351, a 68 mustang coupe 289/ 4 speed and a black and red 77 mustang king cobra

My dad bought the 91 mustang i now own in '95

My brother had a mild built, no-option 89 mustang lx 5.0 coupe which was a ton of fun.

My dad's old Lotus Elite project was pretty cool. He bought it as a non-runner when my mom was pregnant with me, and finished the mechanical restoration about the time I graduated from college. I got to drive it once before he sold it. Apparently the current owner is working on a cosmetic restoration.

My father once mentioned nearly buying a 426 Hemi something or other really cheap (back when they weren't worth very much in general) before "running my damn mouth about ballast resistors". That count?

He does still own his high school 67 base trim (I think it has PB/PS) 327/powerglide Camaro (with old school built 327), complete with 70s budget sound system and slot mags with big rear tires. though its been sitting in the garage under a tarp, slowly decaying, for about 20 years. I suspect I'll be the one who ends up restoring that one.

My mom had two first gen celicas and a first gen Chevy luv.

The ones my parents owned that I were old enough to remember and stick out in my mind are a 67 or 68 bronco, diplomat police car, 69 valiant, 67 barracuda. My grandparents had a turbo Dodge 600 at one point before having a long string of Dodge minivans, and my grandfather's Ram (that I own). My 69 Dodge D100, 78 Dodge Magnum, 74 Dart, and of course my van.

1958 Mercury Voyager wagon. 430, juke box drive, I thought it was the Queen of Coool, Dad thought it was a car.

If I could have any of my father's former vehicles it would be a 1957 Pontiac,2 door wagon, or his 1951 Austin A40 2 door.

76 vega gt with a 468 and a roots blower was my dads race car and the cage made it so i never got to ride in it. coolest car i ever got to ride in was the 73 nova he built for my mother. I learned to drive in a sandrail with an 1835 air cooled vw, very fun but not much of a year round ride.

Car people do not exist in my family.

My grandfather's last car, however, was a Mark VIII that he bought in '83. Not an LSC, also not a Bill Blass or other signature series car. Just a blue on blue (velour) Mark. THAT CAR RULED.

It's the only time that I'm aware of that he kept a car for more than a year or two. I know he had three other cars in the timeframe '80-83, which is creepy because I was born in '78 but I still remember the '79 Regal he owned before he traded it in on a new Sedan de Ville in '80.

Oh, there is photographic evidence that two of my aunts owned Mustangs. One was a '69 and the other was a '70 and I can't remember who had which. I remember the '70 was a barfulous cream color and had whitewalls.

When I was small we had a big Chevy van. That was pretty cool. My Dad also had a 3 cyl. Geo Metro around that time, possibly to even out the family gas mileage.

Grandpa had a 90s-tactic Aqua green Escort GT. That was cooool.

Dad had a Lotus Cortina when he and Mom met. Sadly, the coolest vehicle we had growing up was a VW camper van without the pop top. There were some AWD Camrys in there, they were at least unique appliances.

I still can remember just about every detail about my dad's 1969 Grand Prix. It was white with a black vinyl top and black interior. The dash was a true fighter cockpit. It had a 400 and the coolest door handles. He got rid of it when i was 4. It is still on my wish list.

When I was in my 8 or 9 my uncle, who thought he was the 5th Beetle, parked his 69 GT6+ in my grandparents garage. I begged him for the car. It sat in the same spot until I was 16. He finally relented. I had the car running for my junior year of high school.

i easily have the coolest stuff in the entire extended family. one of my cousins married a dude with an elise but they sold it when she got preggo and he bought an audi wagon. my stuff is cooler than an elise anyway.

all the cool that i really know of is my dad's 48 chevy fleetline fastback and my uncle's 75 international scout, everyone else generally has appliances. my dad had a corvette but i bought it off him, and my cousin had a 72 chevelle and again, i bought it from him.

so in the family i'd rank my belair number one, my impala number two, my chevelle 3, dad's 48 4, chevelle 5. the wrx will probably dart up to 3 in the spring once i drive it.

My dad was a sporty car and hot rod nut from an early age, must be where I got it. He had an MG TD, somewhere in all my crap I have a short film of him spinning out at Sebring in that car. He swapped a Willys engine and trans into it, then discovered the Willys turned the opposite direction of the XPAG MG motor.

So then he had some Harleys, I have a really cool pic of him looking a little Steve McQueen-ish on one.

When I was a young teen, he had a 1956 Corvette that had been dechromed, side pipes, the door handles had been shaved, you had to reach inside the front grille and push a button to operate the solenoid that opened the drivers door. I learned to drive a 4 speed in that car.

He also had a 1958 FI Corvette, he swapped that one for a Chevy box truck and a 1932 Plymouth hot rod that had a SBC and 3 speed. I learned how to do a burnout in that car.

He got out of hot rodding for a while when he and my mom got divorced, then he got a 1985 XJS Jag. That got him back into sports cars, for a short while he had a 1969 and a 1970 XKE at the same time. His house had a 1 car garage so that didn't last too long. Trivia: the 1970 was sold to a guy in Orangeburg, as of about two months ago that fellow still had the car, it is still in perfect pristine condition with less than 60k miles on it.

Then he got his fifth or sixth hot rod wind, when he died he had a fiberglass 1932 Ford roadster with a 302 and C4 automatic. I hated to see that car go, but circumstances dictated it. EDIT: I forgot about the XK120 he had for a short time, he had always wanted one. When he finally got it, he discovered that he was way too tall (6'5") to drive it; his legs were bowed so much that he couldn't close the drivers' door. Even at 6' I had a tough time fitting in it. He had to sell it, drat.

He also had a Wellcraft Nova boat with a big block Chevy which we had to sell also.

So now it's down to me and my brother in Murrells Inlet; he has a gorgeous primrose yellow widemouth TR3 and I have the two Jensen Healeys. That makes us the 'cool car' guys in the family.

My oldest sister had a '77 Trans Am with the screaming chicken on the hood. It was pretty cool.

My other sister had a Fiat 128, a '77 Rabbit, a '72 MG Midget, and a '91 LX 5.0 Mustang Coupe. Her first husband had some interesting cars when younger but while I knew him he had a LeCar and a '65 Lincoln Continental with the suicide doors.

Unfortunately I don't think we have pictures of any of the those cool old cars.

Black, 63 corvette convertible, bought new, red interior, 340 hp

Prior to my first car I suppose it was my Dad's 53 Chevy 1/2 ton pickup. My first car was a nice 59 Morris Minor 1000. My sister's first car was a Datsun 260Z. My Mom's first car was a 1952 Plymoth.

Now all 4 of those are VERY desirable to many of us. I'd love to have them all back.

I can remember when I was about 5 or 6, my dad put his (late model) stock car motor, probably a 283, in a black 55 Chev 2dr post, and we were doing test runs up and down the road out in the country. I wouldn't mind having that car today.

My parents 1959 Jag 3.4 liter Mk I was the first car of my childhood. They added a 1963 4.2 lite Jag Mk X a bit later. In late 60s Dad started getting company cars - I remember a Blue w/ withe vinyl top V8 Dodge Coronet that was replaced w/ a big block Pontiac Grand Ville in copper w/ a black vinyl top. Later was a brown, luxed-out Granada or the Mercury equivalent, and a truly excrable Olds diesel.

When I was very young my dad had a bright red Chrysler Conquest. I know it's nothing special compared to the other vehicles on this thread, but to me as a kid it was the coolest thing in the world. I wasn't even tall enough to see out the windows before he had to sell it, but to this day I've got a soft spot for them.

Don't know about extended family. When I was alive? Eagle Talon TSI. Before? My Mom's 69 Camaro SS. My dad had a MGB GT around that same time. That was obviously decades ago.

Since i've been alive the only car that wasn't a SUV or truck of some kind was the Eagle Talon. Pretty much i've owned the coolest cars in my family I guess.

My grandfather owned a Foxbody Mustang when I was REALLY young and idk what kind it was. He also owned a mustang in the 60s and idk what it was either. I was too young to ever ask.

In my family pretty much everyone but me and my grandfather is cars as appliance people. Car enthusiasts in my family are in fact actively discouraged like I was.

Closest we ever came to cool was probably my dad's CJ5. With a 304 and a 3 speed, it probably topped out at 75mph, but you could pull stumps with it.
