In reply to chief8one: The mileage is competitive with any vehicle that can seat 6, with less maintenance and issues than most. 23 to 25 is my experience when driven conservatively. Plus the easy access for larger disabled people and the ability to carry a wheelchair makes them a great choice.
so you've given up on the (what was it ??) Hyundai ? last yr you were all over them
Your Compound must be on a BIG curb to house all those cars! Man, I wish my job enabled me to have an excuse for a bunch of cars!

210k trouble free miles in 4 years
I thought that was the case ... just wondered why you were switching back to the big Fords

What state do you reside in aussiemg...I've been wanting a rust-free P71. Gimme.
In a state with rust. Why else have them delivered?
I want to know how you had the confidence to by a car in another state, sight unseen?
I have done that several times, rust free gives me 3 to 4 years of use before the cancer becomes visible, in 3 to 4 years these will have another 150 to 200K on them.
Plus buying directly from Government agencies means they have no interest in lying about the condition. All need a good wash and clean plus a couple need the police equipment wires tidied up but otherwise they are in great shape.

Aussie,
In the past I've seen you refer to the '05 P71 as the best year. Is that because that's the first year for the 31 spline axles and diff along with the 4R75 or am I missing something else?
Also is '05 the magic year for all Panthers or just the P71?

If we are hitting you with all these questions: How the mileage between the P71s and the Civilian Crown Vic?

For a reference point this is my fuel log from ecomodder that shows my average fuel economy.
(23.01 mpg lifetime so far with a best tank of 24.06 mpg, if TL;DR, so it's pretty safe to assume I'm somewhere in the neighborhood of 20 mpg city and 26 mpg highway) I drive to and from work with a roughly 50/50 split between city and "highway".
That is with conservative driving habits (that are maddening to the wife and most people behind me, I rarely go faster than 50 mph), 40 psi in the tires, taped headlight seams and a blocked grille. Mine is a '99 LX with 2.73 gears.
I thought the 04s were preferred because the throttle body flowed better and it was the last year of cable actuated.

To and from work I drive like a geezer.
If I hit the interstate I go with the flow or do the speed limit.

That was my thinking as well, I'm not a big fan of drive by wire.
On the other hand, Aussie knows a lot more about Panthers than I do.
I'd rather swap axles than intake/ECU.
Only the Aussie and the Federal Government buy Crown Vics in bulk. But hey, considering all the driving you do, having a fleet like that is a great idea!
The preferred year is the 04 it has the largest throttle body, 05 has a common trans issue, after 07 they are all fly by wire but are still good, I am claiming the grey 09 as my work car, the Elantra will move into the hands of another driver.
The best mileage I ever got feom a Panther was a 94 Town Car, I have no idea why but it pulled down 26 to 27 no matter how I drove it, but expect 22 to 24 mpg for 99% of them

Same car, cop cars have more welds, heavier suspension and more LSD with a industrial interior but mechanically they are basically the same
