So I was at the local pick and pull and found a 911 that was really crunched. There were a fair amount of little things still on it but all the "good stuff" was already gone. I was sad as it looked like a fun happy car until it met its end.
The engineer in me then stepped back and looked at it and realized that this was a big hit and yet there was zero intrusion in to where the occupants were. I am sure it hurt and there were probably injurys but I marveled at the engineering that went in to this car to have it fold and bend dissipating energy while protecting those in side.
I was impressed by the wrecked MR2 Spyder that I bought to part out. It wasn't as hard a hit as this, but it was a freeway speed double frontal hit into the concrete median wall and it still had a 100% intact passenger compartment. And that's on a convertible that weighs a full 1,000 lbs less than the 911 996 cabrio! Modern cars are quite amazing.
