no prep/grudge nights are usually track rentals or hosted by a company. alot of the rules arent near as strict as when the track is running under nhra/ihra rules.

My feer is that kids see the show and emulate it on the street. I see it as only a matter of time before some one gets hurt by a street racer and they point at the show. Ambulance chaser fodder at its best but not a stretch that you could get a jury to by in to it.

Just a matter of time in my book.

Sort of already happened:

CHATSWORTH (CBSLA.com) — More information is being released about one of the men charged with murder in last week’s illegal street racing crash that killed two people in Chatsworth. HotRod.com is reporting that Irael “Izzy” Valenzuela has been charged for his alleged role in Thursday’s collision. Valenzuela has appeared as a driver in the popular Discovery Channel street racing show “Street Outlaws.” Employees at Valenzuela’s auto performance shop in Gardena told CBS2/KCAL9’s Bobby Kaple they had nothing to say about the incident. Both Valenzuela and Henry Gevorgyan have been charged with two counts of murder, to which they’ve entered “not guilty” pleas. They’re each being held on $2 million bail. Police say at least 60 people were watching the drag race when, just after 2 a.m., the modified 2014 Ford Mustang lost control and careened into the crowd. The Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office says they do not believe either Valenzuela or Gevorgyan were driving the Mustang.

Finding these spots is pretty easy on Google maps. Here is the one above:

Pretty predictable really. From the location above, the closest drag strip is about 50 miles away. I think in the entire LA area, there are only TWO drag strips and I think both are well east of downtown, Orange county and the San Fernando Valley (LOTS of potential customers in those areas of course)

The situation kind of reminds me of the Robin Hood Rally fiasco. Highly unsafe situations, all for the TV exposure, giving the legitimate motorsports a bad rap.

Except back then, people on GRM were saying that the people who were anti-RHR just had sour grapes.

Yeah, if you're talking about the track I think you're talking about, and I think you are, they WILL stop things if there are people crowding near the starting line or leaning on the retaining wall. I sure hope that when they re-open it is still a cool place to hang out... $12 entry and quick run-throughs and half decent chili dogs.

i'm sure you are. the ambiance will probably be gone, it'll feel sanitary, and we won't have to cross gravel on the return road and pick up a bunch of rocks on the tires anymore.

Aircooled, I wonder if the rubber you are seeing on the maps isn't test runs from these guys: http://www.qmpracing.com/

Judging by some of the comments here it's no wonder the rest of the world thinks we are a bunch of soft, fat, porn addicted, pu$$ies.

Go to Oz. Watch real men race real cars --sometimes sans helmet.

I hate to say it, but I feel to some extent you are right, we always got told to shake it off, now they are wrapped in cotton padding and not allowed near anything that may hurt them and everybody gets a trophy for attendance.

and back on track

Quote from his book of faces page

Dave had a minor setback yesterday and we had to make another trip to the hospital. He was evaluated again, another ct scan and more X-rays, and released. The symptoms he was having results back to the severe concussion. We did however find that he has a grade 3 ac separation in his shoulder, which explains all the pain he has had with it. Not sure how it was missed, but he will see the orthopedic surgeon on Monday. We are praying it will not require surgery. It was too soon to make the trip to see the car, he was not ready physically.

I used to think it was the people on this forum, but I think it's an American thing. You guys are afraid of everything.

I used to hang out with organized street racers very similar to the TV deal.

We would meet in a parking lot in Orange County, I don't recall which one. (SoCal)

From there we would drive sometimes as far as an hour to a remote location to race.

This was in the late 60's early 70's, As I recall it started after the riots and was tolerated by LAPD as a way to promote community morale. Eventually the public got wind of it and LAPD put the brakes on it. The racers moved the meet out of LA county and started finding racing locations farther out. Yorba Linda, Fontana, San Berdo, Riverside.

Power levels were a lot lower then and the cars were bricks. There were few if any spectators past the 60ft point. Any one past there was drunk even the stoners had sense enough to stay out of the way. The races were fairly well organized and I'm sure they had people to clear any drunks from down track. I don't recall ever hearing of any one getting hurt.

Really it was not very bright to be drinking much anyway, because you had to have your wits about if the cops showed up and you had to leave quickly. We did our partying afterwards. I think there was more bad E36 M3 in the pits, fights and sore loosers who wouldn't pay up.

Regardless of the circumstances, I hope he recovers.

The few times I've watched Street Outlaws I've found Farmtruck and Azn to be the most interesting guys on the show.

Street Outlaws is so overdone. Scripted and over-edited trying to create more drama. It's like they feel a need to embellish instead of document. The incar and oncar video editing and repetition cheapens their work and makes me want to change the channel (after I vomit).

Mind you, we are the nation who decided to eliminate scoring in kids soccer so that "everyone would be a winner"
