I love buying from Tire Rack... But... sometimes they are too straightforward for their own good. I ordered new front rotors for the Escort wagon. For 1994 Escort brake rotors there was one listing for "for DOHC models" and one "for SOHC models," obviously referring to the GT (1.8 BP) and regular (1.9 SPI).

Ok, ordered the "SOHC" rotors since mine is a wagon, LX, and has the SOHC 1.9 like any other LX wagon. I got 9" rotors. The ones on the car are 10." Turns out not all LX Escorts have the smaller front brakes.

Seems like the LX sport package had slightly bigger brakes and in '94 all LX Escorts got the slightly bigger front brakes. (That comes from the FEOA forum... so it could be true)

So, for different reasons and a few days later I ordered the wrong calipers too but that was just because I was in a hurry and it was late at night. The calipers are very similar but the bracket is very very slightly different. To tell the difference the bigger ones say "14" and the smaller ones "13." Assuming that's in reference to the wheel size. Anyway. The spindles for the smaller brakes are slightly different.

The good news is: I learned something new about Escorts today!

Anybody need new "13" calipers for an Escort with the smaller brakes ?

Tire Rack does have excellent customer service but the guy on the phone setting up the return and sending me the right rotors didn't know what "SOHC" and "DOHC" meant...

Duh. A sohc goes between your foot and your shoe, and a dohc is where you park your boat.
