I find that Autosport Labs' Race Capture series gear is a good bang-for-buck deal, you get equipment as capable as the DL1 for 2x~5x the price of the smartphone app setup (or about a quarter to half the price of the DL1).
Honestly I tend to look at my data in Race Render which is really just for adding data to video (and MegaLogViewer for engine stuff). You can preview combined data & video of any length with the trial version. I've been meaning to try GEMS Data Analysis free edition but I guess I haven't gone that deep into it yet.
