Alright, apparently it's going to snow TODAY.
The MX6 is wearing 205/40-17 tires right now. Nexen N5000s in front, Toyo R28s in the back. 
I have a set of 15" steelies that need winter tires.
Stock size is 195/60-15.
Lay it on me, what should i buy? I like cheap. (Firestone Winterforce for $340 shipped?)
Alternatively, anyone within a 4 hour drive want to get rid of some used tires?
Pardon the potentially stupid questions, but i've NEVER bought winter tires before.
I ordered my set of Hankooks and the GF's set of Conti snows from tires-easy.com. It seems like kind of a sketchy website but I have had no problems with any of my orders and they are downright CHEAP. I'm a big fan of the Hankook W409, myself. I would avoid anything with a Firestone label on it.
Hankook i-Pike's are your friends! Cheap and great in the snow. Might even be able to find 15's used right now.

I saw that they had the ipikes there, and that's what i would prefer, honestly.
How quickly did they get you your stuff? Looks like ipikes are only about $20 more shipped through that site.
If you're planning to drive today, you need to go to a local tire shop with those steelie rims and get mounted whatever winterish tire they have.
Don't know where you are on the planet, but for most of it, you really don't need hard core snow tires, which are very specific anyhow (ice, hardpack, deep fluff, etc). Pretty much any winter tire will do you. Especially in your situation of needing something right now.
We've got the Firestones on the two Jeeps (first winter using them) and the one time I drove on a little snow so far they seemed to work OK. They also seem to be the snow tire of choice for odd-ish sizes...
I just got Firestone winterforces for the Volvo. No snow yet but they look like they will be effective.

I'm not real worried about today.... today is just a harsh reminder that i have failed miserably in getting my car ready for winter in time.
Blower motor doesn't seem to be working still. (Think it's just a relay. I hope.)

I am not sure what tires these have but I will tell you that I have personally sold the center caps off the BBS wheels for $80 each on ebay.
$250 for tires and rims.
$80 per cap = $320 back and you still have the usable rims (no caps) and tires.
Okay, some searching shows $35 being the current price on ebay. Mine were years ago but the finish on these are not that pretty.

So, $35 x 4 = $140 My guess is he is profiting $5 on shipping so that is another $20 or $160
If you negotiate and buy for $200 and get back $160 from ebay you could even scrap the aluminum for near $20 each and be at no cost for the tires.
What needs to be figured out is are these tires any good???

Those look awesome on 1st gen MX6s, too. I would just use those wheels.
Only downside is that i hate that shop with a passion.
I'll see if he's still got them and stop by and check them out i guess.

I have some generic M+S tires on my 325iX that I bought at the local Tires Plus store. I don't recall the name, they're just whatever they sell there as their house brand. I've actually been very happy with them, they have good traction, ride decent and don't make noise.

Go with those. I've never heard anything negative about the Altimax Arctics and they're very popular with the Subaru crowd here in the North East.
I myself am running Continental ExtremeWinterContacts on the Miata and I'm pretty impressed with their dry-road manners. I think they were $324 shipping to my door but they're only 175/65-14
altimax arctics are win.
After experience with 3 different snow tires, (2 as passenger though) and listening to people on car boards, I've come away with the conclusion that unless you are in the mountains, any snow tire works. Go for whatever is cheap.
Ice is more of a problem than mountains in most cases.

I did countless hours of research and found these had great reviews. The guy who took my order said "good choice", if that means anything.
For the 15" size you mentioned, they are $288 plus shipping, no tax. These are directional tires. I can't wait to use these this winter.
I just put my General Altimax Arctics on and I like them a lot. So far only dry pavement. They scored higher than Blizzacks(and all other winter tires pitted against them) in Tire Racks testing.

I have used Cooper Weathermasters in the past (I think that was the name) with huge success.
Love my General Altimax HP's. They make my MPV handle like a Porsche. At least my wife says I'm always driving it like one. Unlike many here, I'm a firm believer in running All-Seasons year round. Snow? What's that? In the event of a freak storm, the HP's work well enough in the slippery stuff to get around.
I wouldn't put a lot of money in winter tires. This global warming thing--once considered a leftist conspiracy--is for real. I doubt we'll see much snow south of the Arctic Circle this winter, and soon enough, precious little north of it.

General Altimax and the Hankook I-Pike's are nearly identical. Both are great winter/snow tires. I own 1 set of General's and 3 sets of Kook's.
