Ford GT record
remember like 2 decades ago when 700 hp use to be crazy fast? now at events like Street Car Takeover 700 hp guys are the slow ones. I personally know atleast 3 people with 1000+ hp car that are street driven.
I came in hoping for some track times for the new GT. Not what I expected, but I am not disappointed.
The Ford guy refers to the engine being over-engineered; sounds more like it was over built. Over engineered to me means they built it to just barely handle its factory specs. Throwing excess capacity at something is what they did before things were so highly engineered.
Awesome car and incredible speed for a modified production car though!!
Man, it sure sounds windy judging by that video. That must have been a wild ride.
Don't they have to go both directions or something for it to be a "record" at the Texas Mile? I seem to remember something they did to mitigate doing a run with the wind at your back...
OMG, the sound! Just idling it sounds like it will kill someone just for standing too close to it!!!
I would need several underpants brought with me to the event. One to drive in. One to change after the boost kicked in. One for when I broke 200mph. One for when that slight gust of wind moved the 200mph car 50ft sideways. One for 250mph. One for kicking myself for not hitting 300mph even.
I found the suspension compression at speed rather interesting. You can see how much the car squats from the bumper cam view as he's accelerating.

turbo is also not fully spooled in the first couple gears, so it could just be it coming on boil once he gets into 3rd or so.
So watching the Utube and the paper report: It sounds like they do not need to carry the speed for a mile. (Like Bonneville)
That runway is about 9k feet long. Pretty awesome speed/record. I would want a back up 'chute....just because. But nobody's gonna ask me to drive, so it doesn't matter.
VERY COOL!
Rog
To put it in perspective at 293 miles an hour he was covering a football field in just a tick over 6/10's of a second.

Appears to have a rear diffuser and a front splitter. You just can't see them easily due to the shadows.
