Two miatas welded together!
Any of those non-running will be under $20k and will provide No MPGs
I bought a nice 2001 m5 last year for a few grand less than 20. With the Dinan rear gear in it I can even get double digit gas mileage on the highway if I keep it under 90.
It's easily the best muscle car you can get 4 people and their stuff in comfortably. It's like a corvette in a tuxedo.
The M5 cant be the corvette in a tuxedo because every corvette (except mine) is more reliable than a m/s62 powered 5 series.
Terminator Cobra.
S197 Mustang GT. (5.0 if they are down that low yet, I havent looked in a while)
Genesis 2.0T Rspec
GTO
CTS-V
M3.
Play monster truck and get an H2. I just did and I am liking it more and more. I am actually looking forward to winter now.

This didn't you already have the perfect description for this?
RX-8, Golf R, E36, E46, Jetta TDI, Passat TDI, Camaro SS 1LE, Mustang Boss 302, Evolution VII, VIII, IX, Volvo S60 R, Cobalt SS (after recall fixed ) Saturn Ion Redline, WRX, Mazda 3, Mazda 6, Genesis Coupe,
I would never speak ill of the V. The V is good. The V is rock solid. Thanks for all the concern.
Cruising C5 vettes (sweet baby jeezus they're getting cheap) on CL just got me wondering what else (with four seats) is a screaming value right now.
I think the E46 ZHPs are a compelling value for a DD. Should be able to get one with higher miles for $10K (and some here have gotten theirs in the 8-9k range).
The E46 M3 trumps the ZHP in every regard (minus 2 doors) and can be had in very sweet shape for well under $20k.
You knew I would say that though.
My 2004.5 6.6L Diesel Chevy 2500HD crew cab LT can also be had for that money. It is also awesome in it's own way. Seats 5 though... unless you count the bed. Then 30.

How would an E46 M3 compare with a ZHP in terms of maintenance costs? I read the GRM Buyer's Guide on the E46 M3 that mentioned replacing the bearings as a must on higher-mileage cars, and that scared me a little. Are there any other items that should be addressed on an E46 M3 that you wouldn't have to address on a ZHP (or vice-versa)?
In terms of pricing, I'm seeing E46 M3s drop into the 13-15k range with higher mileage (130-150k). ZHPs are in the 8-10k range with similar mileage. From a cost perspective, I think the M3 offers enough to make up the difference. If E46 M3 maintenance is 120% of the maintenance cost of the ZHP, I'm good with that. If it's more like 200%, then for me, the ZHP might be the better choice for a DD.
In reply to dj06482:
No fatal flaws if the car is well maintained to begin with. Maintenance is the same deal as all late model BMWs except you need to check/adjust the valves on the M3 every 15k. Brakes and tires are bigger and more money. M3 specific stuff is a premium so beefier guibos, control arms, etc... but same ratio as E36 to E36 M3.
01-03 make damn sure the bearing recall was done. Make sure any year had proper oil changes and adjustments. If it did serious track work in the heat of a Texas summer I might be tempted to buffer in money for new rod bearings.
The rest is the usual... shape of all the bushings, radiator, exhaust, etc...
EDIT: Except for some VANOS issue the boards are all up in arms over - this will require the googles to sort out as I'm not familiar with it. Call me skeptical but when this sort of thing happened late in the life of the E36 models it happened to coincide with marketing for a company that happens to sell rebuilt units. Suddenly everyone needed new VANOS. Go figure.
