How far should a dead pedal be from the clutch? How high in relation to the clutch? I can make the height easily adjustable, but the distance from the clutch would be more difficult.

I don’t have gunboats on the ends of my legs but I don’t want to get the side of my shoe caught on the dead when trying to depress the clutch.

Should my foot glide directly over to the dead with out any lifting when the clutch is fully released?

If any one has some pictures of theirs please post em.

Thanks B.

Adjust to what is comfortable to you.

I have had some way up close, some far away, and some not at all (annoying)

I like mine to be even with the mid point of the gas pedal travel. That way the soles of your feet are about even during most driving.

I tend to prefer the dead pedal to be even with or further than the gas pedal, and far to the left so that I can extend my leg and not hit the back of the clutch when coming back to the clutch.

I like all my pedals dead straight when at rest. I can put a straight edge across the foot pads and it touches all 3 at the same time.

My oldest brother has a 69 firebird thats a 4 speed factory car and its a pain in the ass to drive as the gas pedal is a mile down a tunnel from the clutch and brake. It's almost killed me a few times.

The greatest weakness of the 2004 Pontiac GTO is the lack of a "dead pedal". It was added to the '05-'06 cars. I have been studying the dead pedal from various miata parts cars to see if one can be grafted in place.
Placement wouldnt seem to matter as much as having a place to brace and keep your left foot on a similar plane as the clutch pedal.

This is going in a Spitfire and there is suprisingly a lot of room in there. I will probably fab something from aluminium and put skateboard tape on it.

What is this "dead pedal" of which you speak?

I agree with Woody - if my left foot is higher than my right, it throws me off. I like both feet to feel exactly the same. Hate a dead pedal that makes my foot flex up too much, or my shin come into contact with the parking brake release.(Hate parking brake releases that are down there too.)
