I am part owner of a Lemons team building an AW11. In gathering parts, etc...we came across a guy selling several parts cars cheap. Since I'm a poor mechanic, I paid for the cars. One of the cars is in great condition just needs an engine. We kept that car in tact and stripped the others. My teammate is going to put an engine in the good one for me, but the 4AGE is getting a bit thin on the ground. If I can't find one, does anyone know a relatively easy swap that can be done?
After 4AGE variants (all of which are high-enriched unobtanium now) the next relatively easy ones are 3SG(T)E, 2ZZ/1ZZ, and 2GR. They require modded engine mounting points and electrical system mods but they fit in the engine bay pretty easily without much more fab work and have some aftermarket support.
The 2zzge is probably the best bang for your buck since the common transmission choice is in the same family.
Can't find 7AFEs anymore?
In reply to Pete. (l33t FS) :
From a bit of searching it looks like they're just as rare as 4AGEs now.
So I'd be looking for a Celica GT or GT-S, correct? Vibe GT, etc...
Just read about building a 7AGE, uses a 7AFE bottom end and 4AGE top end. Not sure if getting the parts together is tough now but it sounds like a great choice.

What about a 2AR? Frankenstein Motorworks has swap kits for the MK3 Spyder MR2's and they can just barely fit a 2GR in those. I assume the AW11 has at least the same room or more. 2AR's are lighter than 2GRs and make what K24's make with the same mods. More HP, torque and cheaper than 2ZZs.
When you say it needs an engine does that mean it is missing or broken. If missing, upgrade, if broken is fixing it an option? Top ends and bottom ends are repairable and replaceable.
Or sell it on here to fund more racing.
It's missing. Since I'm not the one doing the labor, I want to make it as easy on him as possible.
I remember when a 20v 4age (silver or blacktop) was $800 from an importer and mostly dropped in. I looked recently and was shocked how expensive they have gotten.
These days i'd agree with either the 2zz for at least some parts/mounts interchangeability, or the k-series just because it seems to be the #2 swap in the automotive world these days (right behind ls swaps), and even if there isnt a ready made solution (i think there is though), the knowledge base is huge.
