I'm in the middle of repairing broken plastic power window clips on my wife's e34 525iA. I got the new clips to go in and lubed up the tracks really well, but I'm very unhappy with the way the window is closing. It seems like it's trying to push the window out the top of the frame.

Is there a way to adjust the stopping point? I see that there is a limit switch in the linkage, but, I'm pretty sure that is part of the security system only. I also see that there is an adjustment for the angle, but that isn't the problem.

What tells the motor to stop when the regulator reaches the end of its travel?

I did a Google search for BMW power window adjustment, but didn't find anything that I didn't already know. I have a Bentley manual, but the only adjustment it mentions is the angle.

When I replaced them on my E34 I actually had to drill a new hole for where the adjustment arm on the regulator mounts to the door in order to get the adjustment correct.

If I remember correctly there is a plastic or metal stopper inside the motor to regulate the up travel. Its been a couple years, a lot of those braincells are dead now

In reply to Storz: Is there anyway to adjust that stopper?

I'm not intimately familiar with those regulator assemblies but most cars with framed doors dont have anything to limit upward travel aside from the glass itself. If there are limits mostly they only are reached if the glass is no longer in place only as a way to keep the regulator from hyperextending and destroying itself.

If the car does have one touch up windows there might be an adjustment or just needs the auto up/down recalibrated. BMW does do some seemingly over complicated over engineered stuff to simple parts. However I don't think there is.
