OK, got the OK from the financial adviser for an intake and lightweight battery. Suggestions?
When I looked into light batteries I couldn't find anything under $200.
I just went on the Autozone or Advanced Auto web sites and found the one for my car, then went to the store and looked for one that had the poles in the correct spot, but physically smaller. The CCA was a bit lower but it worked and saved me over $100.
Not the lightest on the market, but a reasonable compromise for $40.

I found a promo code somewhere and paid a little less.
Odyessey 925 cca battery. $178.95 (it's on sale right now)
Keep in mind this car is also a DD, not just a cone smasher. I think ~300CCA will be needed as I run the AC and stereo all summer long and have PW/PL, sunroof and all the good stuff. Just trying to drop a few lbs. Current battery is the stock 570CCA group 24 that tips my scales at 54lbs. So even a 10-11lb battery is a 40+lb weight savings. Add that to the close to 10lbs I've already dropped in intake/exhaust, the 20lbs in wheels/tires and the 35lbs I am personally losing and we're getting somewhere.
the Mazda Miata Battery here is 25 pounds
The 26R-DL Duralast at Autozone is 29 lbs. for $105. 575 cca
They usually have 20% off coupons if you join their mailing list.
I have no affiliation with any of these parts places, I'm just cheap and their stores are everywhere.
I can get the Honda civic/Acura ILX hybrid battery for $80 if I wanted to go that heavy. I'm wanting to save at least 35lbs.

I have pretty much that exact battery.... in my motorcycle.
Don't leave your lights on.
Wow, this many posts and nobody mentioned Deka? Internet consensus is that Braille is a rebadged Deka for 5x the price.
The braille above is a Deka ETX-14, the 15lb one a few posts up is an ETX-15

FWIW, I had a ETX-14 in my Z32 and it worked great.
Walmart lawn mower battery under $30 and about 10 pounds (verified by weighing myself with and without the battery in the Walmart bathroom scale section which is around the corner from automotive)...as I recall about 230CCAs; use one in the ZX2.

at 50+lbs, nowhere is more beneficial. Plus, i'm trying to get teh overall weight down.

This man knows what he's talking about. I was running a Deka ETX18L in my '96 Civic that was relocated to the rear. Didn't have an issue in the cold this winter. Civic was my DD.

That's not as much of an issue as where am I going to put it? I use the trunk, especially on auto-x weekends. Spare tire needs to remain where it is because DD. So moving it to the back is not an option for me.
Don't forget, this car also serves as light duty vacation mobile. So it needs to remain as fully functional as possible without sacrificing space for a monster battery.
The Ballistic Evo 12 cell is pretty cheap and should start most 4 bangers. http://www.amazon.com/Ballistic-Performance-Evo2-Battery-100-012/dp/B0068EQP9M/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1390855107&sr=8-2&keywords=ballistic+evo+12+cell
The amazon weight is like double what the actual weight is.
the EVO 16 cell version starts my miata without effort. i'm very pleased with it. It's hilariously light, and I always get puzzled looks at autoX tech inspections.
"start most 4 bangers". Keep in mind this is a "big block*" 2.4 with 10.5:1 compression. There's more here to move than "most 4bangers". More importantly, it's my DD. I don't want something that "should work ok most of the time".

Then spend the extra moola and get the 16cell if you want insurance.
