With the transmission there is a mechanical control which is hard to defeat which will prevent full speed reversing.

That's a trivial thing to manage in software.

Seems like a cool idea. I look forward to the day when there are several aftermarket manufacturers making them, and hopefully have the costs come down.

Also, I'm glad that you used "crate motor" in the thread title, and not "electric crate engine". smiley

I want a drop-in center section for a Ford 9" that contains an e-motor.  And some batteries that look like a transmission tunnel, some that look like a fuel tank, and some that look like an old ICE.

I'd love to see something in a R180 format as well but I think those are both a little too small to fit it in there and get the power needed.

Putting all of these parts together into one monolithic block may look cool and seem convenient, but it's actually bringing the packaging problems of ICE vehicles into the world of EVs...instead of having a powertrain made of a few relatively small parts that can be placed where you want and connected by wires, there's one massive heavy lump with everything buried in it again.

Nothing's ever been stopping EV builders from packing all these parts into one dense unit, and there are good reasons why it usually isn't done.
