So I'm about to put a 350 together and wanted to church it up a but before I just throw it in the car with flaked off orange paint on the heads and a rusty black block. Does anyone have a good recommendation for reasonably priced engine paint that holds up well and comes in colors other than say Chevy orange? I've threatened to do Detroit Diesel alpine green on a small block before and might actually do it this time if I can find the paint.
Por15 engine paint. Follow the directions andthat E36 M3 sticks like herpes.
Oh and the first listing on Jegs is Austin Healey green which looks not that far off from the Detroit color.
Another vote for the POR engine paint. It's the best. Spend a few extra bucks for it. You won't regret it.

Second the POR. It’s thick but flows out well and adheres well to any slightly rusted surfaces left over after cleaning.
Looks like I'm adding that to the grocery list once I decide on a color.
I can’t speak to its durability yet, but I used duplicolor metalcast for the red and vht for the grey. They are both good for 500 degrees F
i know it will never look as good as when just finished but I hope it doesn’t fade fast
I used rustoleum engine paint spray cans on the mustang 351 and it held up well for the two years driving it. I sold the car so i cant say how it does any longer than that.
