The class nobody asked for?
"Xtreme Street Unlimited (XU) High Performance vehicles with minimal restrictions"
Rules? We don't need no stinkin' rules!

That was my first thought as well. I worked at a GM plant in the early aughts when these were coming down the assembly line. We laughed at the 4 cylinder ones especially, which were just a stickers and tape and body kit package.
Or enter one of these babies: https://www.xmfg.com/product/telehandlers/compact-roller-boom/xr619/

I mean, it may be the class everyone asked for but got served 6 subclasses worth of rules instead?
This class is mildly interesting and as written offers some strange options for builds that otherwise would be illegal.
Also I think I have 2 cars that as built would be legal for this class.
Hey, don't undersell it, it's the *second* class nobody asked for. At least they killed the first one nobody asked for (XS) in the process.

Thanks for getting the joke.
So... no minimum weight, you say?
Hmmm, small, light and recognizable as a production car.
What did a Fiat 850 Spider weigh?
XU has basically been created to be a true catch-all, with the heavily expressed theme of "There is no guarantee of competitiveness." But basically we needed a place for 200tw-shod cars that didn't meet CAM/X aero requirements or were from other series where rules allow more/different mods or for cars where there's multiple drivers in multiple classes wanting to share the same car. And, yes, we realize this means that there could be Global Time Attack cars on grid next to a Honda with a cam. See again: no guarantee of competitiveness. basically this was a safety valve for street-tired cars that would otherwise go to AMod under current SCCA rules.
So don't think of it as a class you build to (unless you want to, and I'd LOVE it if someone did). Think of it as a class you end up in when no other options are available, or there's too many drivers trying to share your car to logistically class them all in the proper group.

But... isn't that what X Prepared was, pretty much?
Everyone keeps saying that, but XP is pretty much an established class with a cohesive theme (and Hoosiers). Taking a class that's already working and announcing to those competitors "You're now the dumping ground" isn't really fair to them.

Why is that a problem if all the cars dumped into the class are backmarkers? Isn't that the way SM/XP used to be? I don't think any of the front runners really have a E36 M3 if there was a WRX with a big turbo and cams also running their class. Or did they?

I've already got ideas for a dedicated build. Not sure if I will have a chance to do it.
That said I am happy that there is a place now for the MG to go play as it meets all the rules and I definitely feel more like running it on 245 200TW then $1800/set hoosiers when it won't be competitive anyway.
I'm pretty sure though this class may excite me enough to register the LMP360 for nationals in XU. It's.. basically legal.

Don't discount the ZQ8 suspension with lowered ride height, Bilsteins, quicker steering box and bigger wheels.
All I know is that apparently the SCCA won't rest until every car can be in its own class. Is this their version of participation trophies?

And 120 romping ponies pushing around a ton and a half of truck. It's like the Miata of E36 M3ty compact pickups!
I did drive, fresh off the assembly line, a 2 door Blazer with the Xtreme package, the Vortex V6, and a 5 speed. It would get squirrelly in 3rd gear at 50 mph. It was also bright red. I really wish I had bought that little truck, it was basically the hot hatch of compact pickups. I'm sure it's a unicorn now, 23 years later.
