I have said it before and I will say it again. I hate track limits. I think it’s silly and this track highlights everything that is wrong with it.

They could always just drive within the white lines.
Track limits aren't something that just happens. Your not caught out by them. You decide to take the risk to run ragged right to the outside the track and leave yourself no margin you leave yourself no chance to recover from 1" mistakes.

It's the delay and the ambiguity. I prefer a natural reason to stay off like they have in turn 6, play stupid games win stupid prizes.
I am a fan of gravel traps, sausage curbs, slippery paint outside the limit, grass, anything but a 30 second delay until a tram of people can call balls and strikes.
If they can miss the monaco armco they should be able to keep the OUTSIDE wheels inside the white lines.
So yesterday was qualifying. Today was the sprint shootout. Presumably today was qualifying for the sprint race. So what was yesterday for? Is the sprint no longer qualifying for the race? And if not, what's the point? Seems that it makes the sprint race even less important- like Hamilton had a bad morning, but he probably would not have gotten points anyway. So now he can cruise around for 30 min and still start near the front tomorrow??

It's funny how some pundits complain about the sausage curbs AND going beyond track limits at the same time.
If not big bumps, the curbs should at least be narrower than the cars. Just put fake grass out there to slow them down. The more they pave it for "safety" the more the drivers will use it.

Exactly, the problem really lies with allowing it to be done in the 1st place, now the high paid babies are pitching a fit :)

You get decent points in the sprint race now.
Glad the rain stopped for the actual GP but I have to say the sprint was exciting with the rain making some real battles. Drivers bitching about track limits is annoying though.
So far this guy is the hero of the weekend:

After that race, they need to make the curbs a lot narrower and do something to make it slower. That was kind of absurd seeing so many penalties let alone some cars going off and not getting them.
The track is a big problem ruining some really good racing.
It was an excellent race.
Have I mentioned I hate track limits. It’s berkeleying stupid. Little kids tattling on each other and mom and dad threatening a time out. One more time Johnny and I’ll give you a time out.
I do not think the stewards were applying the track limits penalties equally across all drivers. I hope there are some successful protests

No thanks, we've got enough drivers with broken spines already.
I didn't expect this to actually happen, but the FIA has accepted AM's protest and they're going to review all 1200+ instances of track limits violations that were documented during the race.
If they really wanted to they could add automatic telemetry to the cars and they would know the exact position of each car relative to the track within a millimeter.
I think they want the controversy as it keeps F1 in the news.
The solution is so simple; either reconfigure the kerb (not suasage kerbs) or put a highly abrasive or slick surface on the back side of the kerb.

Fine, I'm not looking to physically hurt drivers, I don't design racetracks but this is only an issue at a handful of tracks. Do what the other 15 tracks do.

The only way to do that is to put some "penalty" outside of the curb. And I would also make the curb narrower so that they are forced to at least have one wheel on the track.
Maybe the surface they put at Paul Ricard? Something that is super abrasive and draggy.

The funny thing about that, they will have no choice but to add penalties, since so many served them during the race. And they mentioned that it's just 5 sec for every time they violate the number of off tracks. Seeing who gets what will be interesting, but I saw one car go off quite a few times w/o even a black and white.
