Holy!! Does he grab the other guy's wheel??

Holy crap.....the driver of the green car was inches from having his wrist between the track and the top of the roll bar. Lucky!
Wow, the car on the bottom had its dashboard smashed my the front tire of the car on the top. Close calls for everyone.
Holy @@*&T^@!@!!!
Man, open wheel/cockpit cars scare the snot out of me. I can't believe the other guy didn't have two broken wrists.
Open wheel cars are really fun to drive. But the effects of touching wheels raises the risk level, dramatically in my view. For racing, I'll stick to door-slammers.
Amazing footage, though.

First the Cobra crash at 130 mph and now this video. I've never raced or seriously tracked an open wheel car, but I thought arm restraints were standard for those that do. I guess not? If not, why on earth not? These videos prove that the driver's arms are in serious danger.
The black car landed on its wheels? Or was that a different car?
I will pass on the open wheel stuff, I'll stick to safer stuff like stage rallying.
Most organizations I know of in the U.S. require arm restraints for any race car with an open cockpit. I feel a little exposed doing a trackday in a convertible without them. But the video isn't in the U.S.
I'm not judging or anything, but I think Australians have a higher risk tolerance than we do. Or a lower lawyer tolerance.

Keep in mind those are vintage Formula Fords, (at the Phillip Island Classic). Some of the pre-war racers have no roll-over protection whatsoever, and the drivers still go balls-to-the-wall.
You are required to have hand restraints at a $2000 Challenge, but these guys don't?
Hands aside, the guy in the green car wasn't belted in well.

While doing a "Sprint" event, very similar to a HPDE, I witnessed a Formula Ford hit the wall at the beginning of the straight that is shown on this video, the driver was airlifted to hospital from the scene, his car hit the end of the wall and closed the cockpit while he was still in there.
Philip Island is not for the meek, very fast track.
